Rob2222: Rob, your premise is absolutely correct. If you travel, say, 25 mph in 6th gear you'll use less gas than if you were doing 25 mph in 3rd gear. Less RPM's, unless you're going to lug the engine, say, by using too low a gear on a grade, or not downshifting appropriately to accelerate quickly, etc., will require less fuel....and less wear on your engine. Low RPM's can be desireable. If the FZ6---as passenger vehicles---had an automatic transmission, in the standard "drive" it would be engineered/programmed to run in the highest gear at 25 MPH. Under a load, the transmission would automatically downshift. Sure, you can cruise in a lower gear at 25 MPH, just as you can manually shift an automatic car transmission to run in a lower gear if you want, just don't expect optimum gas mileage and minimum wear on your engine.
