The luggage racks are made from vintage CCA 3-piece luggage top rack which is 12x12",and I had them joined to BMW Airhead hardbag lower mounts.

I would much rather have a luggage system,than not;aluminum would be much preferred.

The bike is surprisingly stable with weight on that rack.
I'm doing lot's of laundry,and a few large bungee cords pulls the bag down.

Oddly enough, the factory toolkit for this model did not include pliers. I always add a pair of mini-visegrips to the toolkits anyways, as I find it an invaluable tool.
The owners manual for the 2008 S2 is LIT-11626-21-60

The fuel filter is more of what I would call an 'intake screen' for the in-tank fuel pump. It's not really a serviceable part. They do sometimes get gummed up and need cleaning from what I've read, but they are more meant to be replaced as part of the whole pump assy.

This bike is a small workhorse;I'm putting another set of rear shocks on it soon,and,yeah I think I better wash it
The engine is made from 82' XL125S cases & 6 speed trans and the crank & top-end from an 83' XL200R.
This bike sits outside in my parking space(along with two other bikes)which gets shared with my old car:cramped.

Gary, especially the coolant,yes;my guess is that the bike hadn't had anything like the coolant changed,plugs,etc. I plan to give this bike everything it needs.

I imagine I have most of the tools,although a pair of pliers,etc? might be missing

I have plenty of other tools to work on it;I hope I don't need to adjust the valves just yet;14,500miles.

The PO/Original owner looks to have just driven it for 14,000+ miles,with no service done
Just ride,add gasoline and ride some more;I should have offered $500 less
The PO's son told me some stuff about him "he always takes very good care of his things"
I don't know how much longer it will run without needing a new water pump,etc.
The coolant looks very old,and low !!

Edit: I 'feel' for machines that have been neglected or abused;I have worked on motorcycles for years and it Hurts me inside to see what happens when people don't care for them.
I'm glad I 'liberated/purchased' this beautifully engineered and manufactured Yamaha FZ6 from it's present state;Now,it's on the way upward

Okay, did a 50/50 mix with two qts of distilled water & white vinegar,at first.
I then followed it up with 4 flush cycles using only distilled water; by draining it cold,then filling it up with the distilled water,starting it up until 205 degrees,then shut it off until 125 degrees and draining it out again.
The water still isn't clear., so I'll do a few more distilled water only flush-out hot/cold cycles.
It'll be draining-out clear after a few more.
I'll drain All the fluids a few times also.

The dealer where this cycle was purchased was called Malott's Honda-Yamaha in Manteca,CA.
The Malott family sold the dealership in 1979 and then took their motor home on the road for 10 years.

I imagine this was one of the last bikes sold out of that deaership,as the business named 'Malott's closed in Oct. 2009'.
I suppose it's doubtful if it ever had it's 600 mile service;the Shinko Podium tires have a '1212' date code.. scary hard rubber.
I have new Bridgestone BT023 tires here to install.
I see the chain's inner rollers are worn alot,kind of looks like it never had any chainlube either,but the original Yamaha chain(looks like all the O-rings are intact)and sprockets may have a few more thousand(or more)miles to give;no kinks in the chain.
I'm glad to have found it and look forward to putting many good miles on it,plus servicing it in a timely manner,from now-on.
I plan to do the two-headlights-on modification;I imagine I need to order a connector harness ?

The bike had been garaged all this time which is a Plus ++
The bike also runs very smooth,which is another +

Question: what parts do I need to do the 'two headlights always on' ?
Does it take a special harness (preferred) to get 'em nice?

I read a post here off Google about this,but so far not sure where it is.
