how bad is the wind once you go naked?

i was thinking about making my bike naked this winter but was curious as to how bad the wind is once you remove the upper fairing

I think it all depends on your setup. Mine for exaple is not that bad I have a acerbis cyclops headlight and a custom made dash to push the head light further foward therefore keeping more wind off of me. I get on the interstate everyday and honestly can say its not that bad....yes a full front end would be better but im happy with the way it looks and preforms....plus I think I have a whole lot less wind drag with my setup

Right on! This is what I did originally to figure out if I'd like it and I liked it much more than having the screen on.
Wind noise went away completely, as did turbulence.

If majority of your riding is at speeds below 65mph, I would absolutely recommend getting rid off the fairing. If, on the other hand, you do lots of riding over 70mph and especially for long periods of time, I would say losing the screen is not a great way to go. Tallest (and goofiest looking ) screen would be a better mod for that kind of riding.

In that case, I think it's a great way to go. VS2 kit is possibly the easiest and cleanest way to convert too, so good choice.

Considering my height 6'5" the wind would blow from the windscreen into my helmet, so removing it and going naked made little easier on my neck. Really riding naked depends on the day and how windy it is.

If you wear riding gear, like a jacket or chest armor, Then you really cant tell much of a difference. But like the other forum member said, take off the windscreen and ride without it for like a week and see how you like it.

Going naked it pretty much happens because either people dropped their bikes or they just like the look. I personally like the look

My bike has no wind resistant at all for the head part of the bike.

Going naked will improve this experience vastly. It's quieter and the wind is much more even, I strongly prefer the wind on my naked bike to my friend's with the stock and now the touring windscreen. The only reason you wouldn't want to go naked is if you plan on regularly spending 5+ hours on the highway... The wind gets a little uncomfortable once you hit 80 or so, but 70 and below it isn't a problem whatsoever.

Slightly off topic, I use the VS2 kit myself, and I've noticed that wind resistance on my bike is very sleight compared to the wind I feel on other bikes I've ridden, namely an 82 Maxim and an 85 Shadow 500. I don't know if it's the more forward seating position on the FZ6 or the tiny windscreen that comes with the VS2 kit, but the FZ6 is a hell of a lot more comfortable to ride naked than cruiser style bikes.

I'm going to agree with Geoff, it all depends on the wind conditions for the day.
For me, today was great, a little chutter here and there but completely normal. A few days ago we had 15-20 gusts that wanted to knock you off the bike.
I personally like the wind, if I wanted protection I would drive the car or my truck. I personally didnt notice that much of a difference? I like the idea of removing the current windscreen, great idea to get a sample of what to expect. If you can deal with the change, do it. I just got a compliment this morning while at Cycle Gear, Husband & Wife were trying to figure out what bike I had. The headlight totally threw them off and really liked the kit. dev_usc does an awesome job with those kits too, cant beat the price.

All of my previous bikes have been unfaired. Speeds above 90mph really used to work the old neck muscles. It's ok for short blasts.
I would defo not be able to ride at some of the speeds I have ridden at without the fairing.
I am very short and the fairing virtually covers me to the point, that if I stick my chin down to just above the tank I get no wind buffering on my helmet.
Wind conditions certainly make a big difference.
I would consider going naked as a great way to become speed limit compliant lol.

It's odd, I found when I went to a full naked bike that I got less wind at the helmet, but more in the chest which I prefer. So I'd say I'm more comfortable at highway speed on my Triumph than on my FZ.

I rode a near naked Kawa last weekend. There was WAY less wind blasting in my face and helmet area. The airflow was more even and far less of a blast straight to the helmet than a stock FZ.

Hint in the 2000 ++ miles we've ridden these two bikes together; I stop to pull bugs from inside my helmet almost twice as often as he does on the 2001 ZRX 1200 R. It has a very short screen compared to the FZ with a tiny fairing.

I'd go naked if I had the choice. . . You could sell your fairing to crash victim. :/

Screens suck, they cause turbulence, and i think they are worse than riding A naked...in fact, riding with a fairing, and or screen in a heavy wind is harder work than riding a naked bike IMHO. The fairing, and, or screen, give the wind a nice solid surface to push against!

I have done truckloads of touring without a screen, or fairing, and i never ever give the wind a second thought, unless it is storm strength wind, then it does not matter what you are riding, the wind is a PITA!

Since he is saying that he is very short his head could be at the same hieght that your chest is
