help please - side panel and tank

Boy, this will seem dumb but....I'm having some small difficulty taking off the side panels in order to lift the tank. How does the clip under the rubber molding around the mirror detach from the panel ? I'm having a heck of a time with this specific attachment ? I can't see that area very well due to a poorly thought out winter storage arrangement....

I have a '06 FZ6.

If it's an 06, lift the rubber cover and unscrew the philips screw. In the above scematics, you need to remove parts 26 & 27. Total of 3 allen-screws per side + 1 Philips screw per side.

You dont need to remove the panels to lift the tank!!! ,- unbolt the horizontal bolt holding the tank under the seat, the undo the two bolts in front, lift the tank in the back, slide it sligtly bacwards, lift the front over the Cowlings and rest it on to of the panels while you reinsert tre rear bolt. Now you can lift up the tank. Be carefull not to stress any of the wires or hoses attached.

Now you can lift up the tank. Be carefull not to stress any of the wires or hoses attached.

Further review of what I was doing (and a flashlight) shows that the screw under the rubber molding just turns, but won't come out. Suggestions ? Maybe have to try to slide the tank back as previousely suggested, Want to get the battery out so..... The screw on the other side came out immediately, so I don't know what the problem is ! :spank:

I get that a lot with that particular part. I cut the screw the first time and pulled it out. I bought a few replacement items, but it keeps happening, they're too sensitive. Lately I ride around without them on and I really stopped caring

In the UK bikes this screw is plastic. Put some tension under the rim of the outer washer using a thin edged screw driver. You don't need much pressure, the plastic screw will just come out as normal once it is under tension.
I will defo replace this with metal ones in the summer.

Mine did this two... get another screw driver and push on the backside of the screw towards you while unscrewing. This should create enough force to have the screw start to bite and unscrew. Or it may just push the screw out.

It's because the screw isnt really in a machined hole. It is one of those fasteners they use inside cars where the screw is being screwed into a piece of plastic that expands.

DO NOT LOSE THAT LITTLE PIECE OF PLASTIC!!!!!!!!!

After you get the screw out it out you will probably need to squish the ends of the piece of plastic together so you can place it back in the hole. Then you can put the screw in. Mine took some playing with to get back together and I ended up starting the screw in the plastic piece then mashing the four prongs together and pushing it backinto the hole and finally tightening the screw.
