Headlight trim pops out (08)

Hey guys, I have an irritating problem. One of the headlight trim thingys won't fit quite right. It pops out slightly and I can't figure out why. I got a new one from Yamaha that I just fitted but it still pops out a little. While installing the new part I noticed there was some kind of rubber packing around the headlight (on the inside of the fairing). Is it possible that it has shifted so that the trim won't go in properly? What do you guys think?

I have an 07 and the same thing happens...tried to put it back in but to no avail...expansion from the heat makes it worse.
