after 4-5 years of riding i did something i've heard of others doing. something i never thought i'd do. i'm first in line at the light. it turns green and i get going. i'm in no big rush. i shift to second and give the throttle a twist. only thing is i'm not speeding up and my rpms are going up. look down and see the neutral light is on. doh! i've never shifted into neutral and figured after 4 or so years of riding i wouldn't. good thing it wasn't heavy traffic.

Oh yes the old fazer the fzs600 had an even more clunky gearbox than the fz6. You had to really kick it in to 2nd. If you were not thinking it would go in to neutral all the time. Never done it on the fz6.

:squid: :ban: :justkidding:

I had a false neutral the other day on the highway. Also not fun.

4 years before this happened is impressive. I miss 2nd way more than that, but I also lack motorcycle skills.

Switching from 1st into 2nd @ high RPMs on my VFR is almost always unsuccessful :/

Y'all need to switch to Rotella T Synthetic :BLAA:

THAT's what's going on! You nailed it. I usually use Rotella T, but used non-synthetic penzoil this time out of laziness. Since then, I've gotten negative miles per gallon, can only use every other gear, have to inflate my tires every day, and my kids won't even look at me :BLAA: Also, I can only do 411.2kph with my 500 gallon topcase. Thanks!

Yup, usually once every ride or so. :spank:

It would be one thing if you used Amsoil. Pennzoil is just outrageous...This totally explains why you can only reach 255.50783 miles per hour with your topcase..I drive 300+ regularly. Now, mix a bottle of Rotella T and KY lube and fill every fillable hole on your bike (including topcase) with that and try again.

Other than my noobness, I would frequently shift into neutral while trying to upshift from first into second due to the clunky gearbox. After some fresh Motul full synthetic oil, I have since noticed a smoother transition from first to second gear.

I,m impressed Dean,4-5 years and you have never done that before !
I have done that on every bike I have owned ..............must be me ,lol

No it's not :D
Even though it's very difficult to do on a Suzuki it can be done

Within the first month of riding my FZ6 I caught a false neutral between 5th and 6th.... Almost crapped myself that day. :(

I've done that quite a few times.. not in a long while though.
Ever since I've started pre-loading shifter for every up-shift and concentrating on full range of lever motion, it hasn't happened

4-5 years? Really? No way. You must be lying. Nobody goes that long without botching second gear every now and then. ;)

I used to miss second gear like crazy when I first started riding on my TW. That gearbox was really clunky when it was new. If I got lazy in the slightest on that bike, it would go into neutral with the greatest of ease. Of course, when it came time to park it, it would fight me for minutes for neutral. LOL I haven't done it on the FZ in a while, but then again I've hardly been riding. I'm sure once I start commuting, I'll get tired/lazy and botch it once in a while.

I own 2 fz6's...1 runs fully synthetic motul 7100, a radial mounted clutch lever, and valtermoto rearsets, and has done nearly 50000km's, and the gearbox is like a Swiss watch! The other runs OEM everything, and 5100 semi synthetic motul oil...and Has 15000km's on the clock, and the gear change between 1st and second is clunky as all hell!

Go figure!

Oh dear God drain that car oil out of your motorcycle! You wanna replace your clutch next month? Keep running cheap car oil and you will.

Oh wow, no I don't want to replace my clutch at all. Will drain that poison from my bike and replace with olive oil immediately. Thanks Krid!

WOW Dean, you had me going there for a minute!

Don't do that again! :spank:
my bad. just trying to make the post more interesting than... "so i missed second today" :D

that's what i use. i don't think it was a tranny issue. i just got some new boots (icon super duty) and i think they were more to blame. they're a little bigger than my previous cheap wal-mart boots.

wow. really guys. didn't think it was that big of a deal. trust me, i have other issues. now if we're talking amount of times i've choked the bike off... not sure i can count that high. guess it feels good to know there's something i do well on the bike. ;)

I accidentally hit neutral instead of second every couple months -- I feel it as soon as I start letting go of the clutch and nothing is happening, so it's a quick fix and I'm on my way.
