YO! FZ6 baddies,

I've got just over 450 miles on the clock now, and man, I love this bike.
I've tried to do the "Motoman" break in as best as I can, but due to slow
pokes and often lack of running room, I may not have been doing it 100%
perfectly. But, I do some nice 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear roll-ons and slow-downs.
In the course of the last 3 weeks I've owned the bike I've put the PC III on
with a K&N filter and the Arrow cat elimination pipe...and one of the minor
air box mods (inside rectangle cut on intake tube.). Bike runs like a champ,
especially strong from 8k rpm and up. One thing that puzzles me though is
the gas mileage so far. I figured it out this last tank, and I got 38.62 mpg.
Is that typical for a lot of heavy roll-ons on the gas and keeping the revs
varied? I think I was getting in the mid-40s before the PC III, but I never
officially figured it. I just know I wasn't hitting F-trip at 150 miles.

I've created a simple formula
More fuel you add with a PCIII, the less MPG you get.
F+ = MPG- :)

I run my bike pretty rich and I get less MPG than I could, but since I don't commute with my bike and it's pretty cheap to fill up anyways, I don't care.

Dont know the exact figures, but i get considerably less Kilometres per tank with the PC111 installed.

:DI run the ever livin cr@p out of mine everytime I ride it and i get about 25mpg.so if your getting better than 35mpg ,i don't think your ridin as hard as you think!

Yeah, I knew that one was coming...add fuel with PC3 and get less gas
mileage. That should be true, but, when I tuned my VTX 1800 with a PC3,
forward facing intake and pipe, I actually got a little better gas mileage
than stock, and certainly better than the original fuel controller I put on it.
There was quite a bit of fuel added as well. I got between 37-45 mpg on
that bike, depending on the length of the trip. I could lean the map out
a bit, though it still seems a bit flat from about 5-7k rpm at half to full
throttle. I know, I know, that's how the 600s are...not much low end.
Still getting used to that. That and this bike is totally different, in a cool
way.

Well, now I know better what to expect. I'll tune it like I did the VTX, until
it feels the best and gets decent mileage. Then, if I ever have the $$ to get
it officially dyno tune...

Your bike isn't even broken in fully yet, the motor is still a little tight. It will start to get better mileage after about 1k miles. And yes, this is with doing the motoman method. Also, the PCIII usually adds fuel by default and FZ's apparently tend to run a little rich from the factory. You'll need a custom dyno tune after you get it fully broken in to maximize your performance and mileage with the PCIII.

Dako81,

I think that makes sense. I'll certainly give it some time, and after break-in
when I'm riding more normally I'm sure it'll be better.
I'm not sure about it running rich from the factory, as the beloved EPA would
not allow that, I'm sure. Most everything has to be leaned out to (sometimes)
crazy measures. However, you may well be right, as the Dynojet maps kind
of show from the numbers, that the FZ is like the VTX in that it turns fairly
rich in the mid-upper rev range. I need to wait o dyno tuning until I get some
kind of pipes on there. I don't think I'll be sticking with stock. Maybe by the
end of the year.
Unless we've got any musicians on here that'd be interested in buying a
6 string bass I've got up for sale. Then I'd have the money for both.

It is a bit fat from the factory. The reason is Mr. Y doesn't want to warranty motors as people mod them; pipes, filters, hack apart air boxes, etc. For the Fizzer the three CATs clean the emissions up to super low amounts.

When my bike was tuned my emissions were the lowest my tuner had ever seen. CO was at 0% to .01%.

I don't have my dyno sheet on my iMac to post, but the before and after emissions is much less and a very straight line.

Remember that gas is the catalyst that allows oxygen to burn during the combustion process, chemistry 101 here, the chapter on oxidation and reduction. So the less emission the more complete of a burn. I've ridden behind bikes that smelled of raw gas, way too fat! If it isn't burning you don't need it.

So with a good tune you will see you mileage get a tiny bit better on the Fizzer.

Here's my thread on my tune, with the dyno before and after. Note that the difference in the before and after is ONLY the tune. That resulted in 7 hp vs. a DynoJet crap-tac-ular map!

Hey Hellgate...
Did you see on my post about fork springs that I changed the order at the
dealer? Got the .90 springs coming. At 135 lbs. RT recommends exactly the
.90 springs. I'm between 130-135, depending on the meal...LOL!
So, I think you were right, and the guy who used to work for Traxxion was
wrong. You & GMD, i think, had it right.

Anywya, I couldn't understand that dyno graph where the A/F mixture was.
Could you send me that map to [email protected]? Do I need to PM you?

I noticed you were talking about the computer running the show up to, what,
7k rpm? Dynojet's instructions are to disconnect the oxygen sensor on our
07 & up bikes so that wouldn't happen. Anyway, unless I misunderstood,
it sounds like you might be saying to not use the PC 3 on the bike until
I can get it dyno tuned? I gotta say, the base map I used for the VTX was
pretty close. Pretty lean on the bottom, but I wasn't using a baffle. I just
ran that on the dyno to get a look, then I went home and added fuel to
the bottom end, and voila...fast cruiser. This bike is, of course, very different,
but I'm curious to see actual numbers. Either I disconnect it until I can get
it tuned...which may be never if the company I work for folds...or I can
just lean out the numbers some and do my own testing as I did before.
How far off were they on the base map? Oh, and I have the stock can on.
