ok....so i need to tap a headlight wire. maybe using a posi-tap?
do you know a good kit to buy?
i need a positive and negative wire so.......:Flash::Flash::Flash::Flash:
i have to do some research first.
seems like what i want to do.
i didnt want to use a fuse box because it was kinda overkill.

Posi lock makes some small kits that aren't that expensive. Look towards the lower end of this page. You want to make sure you get the "Posi Tap" , correct gauge as they also make products for just tieing lines together...

The in-line tap is very easy to use and very non-intrusive (pokes a small holes thru the wire insulation). I've used them often, makes for a simple/clean install...

Any line that provides 12 volts when the key is turned on will work. I personally would tap into the running front directional running light line as its easily accesable. You'll have a hot line, a ground and of course, the directional (blinking) line.

The gps power cord has 2 bare wires (+ and -).
What I don't understand is how I tap the 2 cables (+ and -) for my gps into one headlight wire?

As stated above, the harness to the front directional stalk has 3 wires.

One is GROUND,
One is hot all the time (when the key is on-running light)
One is hot and blinks power for the directional.

You want to use the GROUND WIRE AND THE RUNNING LIGHT WIRE,
(+ AND - )

You can use the low beam line from the headlight for the hot lead but that will only light up when the bike is started (the same as your headlight). You'll have to ground the GPS to the frame or another ground source..

It's not heat because I fried two Garmin power adapters and didn't turn on or run the bike at all. Just hooked up to the battery terminals and it blew both out.
