Fz6s speedo swap

Hi, my fz6s 2004 had a speedo malfunction due to sunburn. I believe it is possible to swap in the later speedo from 2006 onwards. To this end I sourced a 2nd hand part from USA which I hope to fit. I understand that this has been done by others and I was hoping that someone could help me with the wiring side of the project.
I have taken off the front panels etc and now have both the instruments in front of me. Herein lies the problem. The plugs on the new part don't plug in (which i expected) but also the colours don't match up. Also 3 plugs on the new and 2 on the original. If u can help please explain slowly as I am Australian.

You need a copy of the wiring diagrams with the colours shown, eg you can find them in the Haynes manual.

There's probably a copy you can download from in here, but I don't know where, so maybe someone else can point in the right direction.

The plugs show the same color codes on the S1 and S2 instrument clusters. The 3rd plug may be related to ABS and/or immobilizer. The one difference will be the back light on the clusters. The S2 cluster will require a jumper so you can see it at night. An easy fix...

My original speedo has 2 plugs.One is a black 6 pin female with 5 pins in use. The other is clear plastic female 6 pins all in use. It has 5VX-00 on back. The replacement speedo has 3 plugs. One looks to fit a headlight. There is a black 6 pin with 5 pins in use.colors don't match original. A second plug also black but 10 pin with 8 pins in use. There's also 3 wires cut off (no plug) blue/red stripe, black, and olive green. Someone suggested that I get a haymes for the wiring diagrams but I have found haymes information to be a bit general and lacking in specific details. The second speedo has YA-1033-002 on back.Hopefully this has narrowed the problem down. Thanks Paul

Thx for that. I will see if I can get a haymes manual. There's still the problem of different numbers of wires and different colours. If the colours matched i could just change the plugs over. Hope i don't have to contact an auto electrician as I would need a second mortgage!

In the back of the Haynes manual are wiring diagrams showing the different colours.

It may take a bit of time, but you should be able to work out which one you're looking at on your existing loom and what they should connect to on the new cluster.
