FZ6 & Speed Triple

I have more than a few bikes, (8 to be exact) and they are all quite different. Never saw the need to have two bikes that were even remotely similar. It would be like having vanilla and then French vanilla as opposed to having vanilla and a chocolate one too. I do love different flavors.
Not enough room, money, or is the Trip just too much more fun?
ahhhh... the Benelli in all of it's $17k wonder, very sext and comfortable bike, but oh so expensive!!!

+1. I read an article about the Benelli Cafe Racer and fell in love with the looks almost immediately. It reminds me of Bumblebee from the Transformers! Pure bada$$. I do not however love the pricetag, most def out of my pricerange!

The Benelli is sweet no doubt but if I were in the market for something along those lines I would go with the Monster S4RS. The bike comes with a huge number of really trick items including fully adjustable Ohlins suspension, Brembo brake components and Matsushima ultalight wheels. The S4RS has awesome and twisty written all over it. The price is very respectable too.

Yeah i got to see them at the 2007 Paris Moto Show, they looked awesome, i had never heard of them! Are they any good?

The Benelli is a 3 cylinder 1130cc machine with 50mm Marzocchi inverted forks an Extreme Technologies rear shock with full piggyback that has jounce and rebound adjustments and full Brembo brakes. They put a lot into that bike for 13,000 less than the Bimoto 992 machine and the best part is it doesn't have the Desmo maintenance costs either. The Benelli Cafe and Ducatti S4RS have some serious goodies for an awesome price of $16,000 usd. I just don't see where the other 13,400 bucks is.
It is not all in what you can "see".... it`s the materials used, the manual labor put into it, the refinements, the performance, the R&D, the brand, the design details...etc...etc.
Can you "see" why a MV is $100k more than a Ducati 1098? I am sure you can`t either

I agree with blue, getting two similar bikes would be redundant. I was looking at upgrading to a sportbike and looked at the daytona 675. Only by comparing it to the speed triple did I really want to buy one, though I'm sure the daytona has more top end (i'd rather have mid range). if it wasn't for those dual headlights, i would have bought one already.

I rode with a small group that included a Speed Triple......in my opinion, the FZ6 isn't even remotely "similar" to a Speed Triple, either parked side by side, or running down the road.
The Speed Triple is an angry looking machine....and it goes like one too. He was pulling away from me on the highway like I was on a 250.

I saw a Ducati 838 i think today, it was in a pearl white, soooo nice! Cost like $16,000. But it was a beauty.

Yes, you do get what you pay for and the bike you are referring to, the MV F4CC is hugely overpriced in my opinion and at 450 pounds way overweight for that price too. Much like those that buy the Ferrari or Lambo or for that matter even the Roller, it's all about prestige. Years ago a guy named Carroll Shelby proved it didn't take an unlimited budget to be the best or to beat the best; so much so the federation had to change the rules to beat his works. In terms of the materials used again the MV and quite frankly most of the hyper priced bikes fail to really get into the exotic space age materials that could benefit those that do need them, the riders. Rather than things like carbon fiber fairings and hand made components lighting a fire under someones butt, why not spend the time and money to launch old school bearing assemblies that simply hold things back and reduce life. Bling will never, not in a million years sell to those that are in the know. That same bling will however cost you and therefore you do get what you pay for. Give me the likes of an R1, Gixer 1000 or ZX-10 and the $108,000 dollar difference to modify it and stand by MV because you are about to get smoked.

What are Chicken Strips??
Chicken strips refer to the portion of the front and rear tire tread area that is not used. The strips are created by a lack of lean angle thus the unused portion of the tire.

If the speed triple was leaving you like you were on a 250 you were not using the full potential of that FZ6. Note the quarter mile times and trap speeds for both bikes are quite similar. Where the triple has the advantage is in torque so the roll on times from 60 to 80mph (the first figure in the second row of numbers) is where you will get hammered if you are going to sit there and just go. Bottom line, the triple has almost 30 horsepower over the FZ6 with a wet weight that is 29 pounds more but the bikes ability to put it down in time to distance with a pro rider in the saddle simply isn't there as represented by the posted figures from tests done by Motorcyclist magazine.
I agree with you to a certain extend. You do pay for a brand, and I do not discuss that fact. I do not think however that you realize how a Ferrari, Rolls, MV etc... are designed and assembled, compared to standard Ford, Gixxer or even Ducatis today.
There is nothing comparable, and saying that you could make a gixxer smoke an MV for less $$ has nothing to do with the topic at hand. You don`t pay to go faster, you pay for quality, brand, "savoir-faire", real customer service, prestige... you know when you buy a Rolls that the car was put together manually by professionals that you can meet if you so desire... and while yamaha, suzuki and all the low priced brands battle to save money on everything they can, from manufacturing processes to choice of parts/material, MV or other high priced manufacturers will simply choose the best out there.
Also, something to consider is that when you build hundreds of thousands of bikes for the general public, you will automatically be able to reduce your costs... which is not the case for their prestigious, high priced, counterparts.
You also have to consider one very important fact. While for us "poor" people it may look completely disproportioned and ridiculous to buy a Ferrari for half a million dollar when you can buy another car with the same performance for 10 times less, it is totally and utterly irrelevant for the millionaires out there.
1) $50k or $500k does not make such a big diff to them (it's equivalent to our $50 and $500 hehe)
2) they have the $$ and want the best of the best
3) they are ready to pay whatever it takes, as long as they are taken care of properly
4) they are proud and want to show off
On a side story, I had a meeting recently with a Sales executive from Embraer (3rd Aircraft Manufacturer in the world after Airbus and Boeing), and we were talking about their latest business jet, the Phenom 100/300 (I sell them an electronic controller for it). After we were done with the usual crap, he explains to me that they had to re-think their whole business strategy, when they decided to enter this "business jet" market. Before, they sold only regional jets, for airlines... so the main goal was to manufacture the cheapest aircraft possible, while meeting safety requirements. Obviously, when airlines need a new aircraft for their fleet, all they care about is price.
Well, they quickly realized that when you sell the very rich individuals (as opposed to airlines), you suddenly DO NOT want to be the cheapest anymore... he explained to me that "the very rich" all know each other more or less... they are part of the same "spheres of society" and so when they talk about their own personal business jet with their rich friends, they certainly don`t want to be the ones owning the "cheap ones"... Embraer actually had to increase their prices, to match the competition more closely!!! Else they wouldn`t sell.
Now again, for these ppl who buy a business jet, what counts the most is not even the aircraft! it`s how the aircraft manufacturer will take care of them... the goodies they will get on the side... how well the salesman gets along with the customer...etc....etc.
It is difficult to grasp, but it`s reality, and I believe it applies to our discussion here... a lot of ppl will buy an MV for $120 because they can, and because they`ll have something that most ppl won`t have. The fact that the MV is not worth $120k does not matter one bit to them ($120k is probably what they spend on the wkd when they fly to London to do some shopping)
