Hi, i am posting this on behalf of my partner due to no internet connection at home atm.

He is looking at buying a naked FZ6 (reg Jun 2005) but he wondered whether anyone can tell him what year the engine was changed over and how you could tell which engine it was. Sorry if this is a bit vague, i can get more information later.

Thanks

Jo

Changed over, as in someone put a new engine on it because they blew that one?

The engine block should have the VIN stamped in it. If it doesn't match the VIN on the frame (or the sticker on the frame was removed) then do a VIN search for the one on the engine block.

Course, the FZ6 engine is kinda bulletproof, as it were, so if the engine needed changing, I'd ask lots of questions. The frame may be stressed out from stunting or racing.

If you mean between an FZS600 and an FZ6?, they changed in 2003-2004.

Here is my FZ6N next to an FZS600 (foreground in the first picture)..

If you are asking about the engine on the 2004-2009 FZ6 specifically it underwent tweaks in late 2005 to fix a TPS issue and had some tuning done for the 2007 model year to improve it's smoothness and throttle response so 2007-2009 is the best engine, 2005 is prone to TPS issues if it has not been addressed already but then sometimes you get lucky.
