Fuel pump question...

Will a fuel pump run when there is no fuel in the tank?

If your initially turning on the bike, yes, it will try to prime.

I don't know how long it will run before turning off/burning out without the pressure raising to 30+ PSI, (the pressure regulator is in the pump), cooling of the fuel/safety features built in to the bikes electronics.

I suspect if the pump is disconnected from the bike, and "hot wired", it'll keep running

I am building a 05/06 project Fz6 and I was able to get it to run. Then had to disassemble it to install new throttle and clutch cables. When I got everything back together I did not hear the fuel pump whine I thought it was the relay and to make sure I hot wired the fuel pump and it did not work outside of the gas tank. I was wondering if the fuel pump had to be submerged in gas for it to work.

Ok, nope it should make some noise on initial key on. (there's no switch inside to turn on/off with fuel level), (as long as the Red KILL SWITCH is set to RUN)

Check the two connectors at the base of the tank. If the tank is raised too far, its very easy to unplug them accidentally...

The RED circled connector is for the fuel gauge, the other for the pump..

Please post what you come up with...

The pump and fuel gauge, NEW, are sold together as ONE UNIT. If buying used, you may find one without the sending unit...

Look under the parts for sale here on the forum. Guys are parting out bikes often. IMHO, I'd trust someone here selling a pump a whole lot more than Flea bay..

Sending units do go out occasionally, so that is worth something..

Oops that's expensive, hopefully it's not burnt out.
