First Damage

Update:

Well my brother is buying a new side cover. its $54 from Ron Ayer's Motorsports. And I am looking into to getting some Fz6 logo stickers to put on them just to make it look better.

Good brother you have, even if he did scratch your bike. Lots of people wouldn't own up to it, let alone pay for repairs

Lol. Don't wanna be an ******* but forget about the tiny little scratch and focus on riding the wheels off that thing! :)

P.S.

Just read your update - you've got a great brother indeed. My advice still applies tho :)

THIS!!! If you're gonna go the new side pod route (another term you'll hear them called around here), DO NOT pay for it yourself. I don't care if your brother is 10 or 25. If he's too young to have a job then take it out of his allowance, but don't pay for it yourself.

And I'm like Wolfman. I hate scratches, but they do inevitably happen (especially on a black bike). Wait until you've had it for 4 1/2 years like I have. LOL. I baby the heck out of mine and I've still got a few little scratches here and there.

I can still remember the first one, too. I was working around the handlebar area and forgot the wise idea I'd seen mentioned here if you're doing that...namely, put a towel over the tank so if you drop a wrench or socket, it won't hit the paint directly. I didn't do it that particular time (the first time I hadn't put a towel on the tank) and what did I do? Dropped the socked right on the tank. CLANK! Luckily, it didn't chip the paint, but it did put a little scratch and I was so pissed at myself. But, now I just chalk it up to character.

Yes, am i great believer in putting a towel, or such over painted parts when working on a bike....it just gives you that added safety net.

Also, keeping the bike covered in the shed is a good idea....once again, giving your bike that bit more protection against small scratches, dust, etc.

+1

Exactly what happened to me, except I did chip mine. :)

However, odd as it seems, there is some relief in getting that first imperfection. I find I can enjoy it more and worry less!

Of course, I'd still make my brother buy a new and the stickers as well ;)

When I dropped my bike some months ago (on the left) the side cover was broken in half and I had to buy a new one along with a full front cowling and some other parts. I ordered the stuff from boats.net and I made sure that the part numbers matched my bike model because it's a European 2005 FZ6-S.
Everything arrived safe in Greece and the bike is like new again. The price difference was HUGE compared to what they asked for here... Like 1/3 of the price.
I ordered the side cover logo sticker as well and it says "FZ6" like in the photo below:

The other side has the original European sticker that says "Fazer".
