Error 46

Not been able to do any voltage, currant or ohm checks as yet. No multi-meter. My dad came down today but he brought his crappy one which couldn't measure the right values. I'm going to buy one this afternoon and have a look at the weekend if I get time. We managed that check today though and it was a crappy 12v so I reckon its deffo not charging as the Error 46 would say. Full checks to follow!!!

i got a cheap multimeter from maplins a several years ago for a fiver, still works and I've not even had to change the battery!

i don't think you need to spend more than £10 on one

Okay... I bought a new rectifier. Took some advice and didn't get the Yamaha official one which costs about £56. Any rectifier should work provided its for the correct voltage etc. So this one cost £30.54. No issues as yet but we'll just have to see. However it solved the issues of voltage getting to the battery instantly. Hoorah!!! :-D

i also replaced mine, just found a used one from ebay for about £30.

I checked my original one though, and it seemed to be working, voltage across the battery was about 14.0V at 5000rpm, the replacement was the same.

I replaced it anyway (really easy 2 minute job), and took it out on a short 20 mile ride with no problems, and then a longer 100 mile ride yesterday.

Not sure what caused my problems, I did fiddle with all the connectors and check the tail lights for earthing problems. Did notice a bit of condensation in my headlight, not sure if that could have caused a problem.

It could equally be your coil. It's hard to differentiate between rectifier and coil when one breaks down.

If you start having issues again, either replace or rewire the coil. Typical, issue is bike dying while riding.

i did think about that, i thought the voltage seemed a little on the low side, for me at least it may have just been a loose connection somewhere
