Ducati Multistrada 1200 S

I paid a visit to the range this afternoon to visit a fellow Rider Coach who just bought the new 2010 Multistrada. It comes in various packages, this is the touring package that comes with hard side bags and heated grips.

The bike has four settings that you can switch while riding by the press of a button. Sport, Urban, Touring and Enduro. I'm still trying to picture riding this bike around in the dirt.

One of the major design change from the previous models is the front end More of a streetfighter look. Plus dual headlights versus a single headlight. No need for a dual headlight mod on this bike, they both come on. In fact, the bike has four different bulbs. Use the high beams, all four bulbs are on.









Notice the adjustable windscreen.


This will definatley be my next bike!

The 1200S appears to be a real game changer. Also, in all the latest supersport comparisons the Euros seem to be kicking Japan's collective keister. I'm sure the big four from the "Land of the Rising Sun" will be working hard to catch up.

On the other hand, a Ducati with tons of brand new electronics scares me a bit. Better live close to a dealer if you get one soon.

agreed, i dont think tha ducati's are crap because of electronics but i have a bunch of friends with 1098 (paid 19.000 euros for this bike) one of them suddenly his bike got crazy and kept the ilde speed a 3.000, searched for an adjustment screw....uhmm...oh well there isn't one!!! u need to buy this **** cable (for 300$) and that device(for 100$) and connect to pc... others are losing mirrors, flashlights, handlebar ends, rear fenders after a trackday cause screws went out due to extreme vibrations....i expected some more quallity from a 19.000 euro bike! i also dont like that ding ding ding ding sound they do!

BUT

this is JUST ME!!! if you like it, you HAVE to buy it!

An expensive Duc can never be a daily commuter IMO. It costs too much and the reliability isn't the best. I would buy a 1098S though, as a second bike These brands are selling a different product than the Japs. So, a Ducati tourer would not be a candidate for me.

My first consideration when buying a bike, or car, is reliability. Then I look at other things. It kills me that the Japanese mfgrs don't import many of the models that appeal to me in the US.

Right now, all the ones that catch my eye are in the "not so reliable" category, at least when compared to Honda\Yamaha. Triumph Street Triple, Aprilia Shiver & Dorsoduro, KTM SMT990, etc.

24,000+ miles on my Duc with not one single reliability issue. Hell, I just changed the factory belts 2 weeks ago. I wouldn't hesitate to take a Ducati, that I have serviced, across the country. Getting ready to do a 2,000 mile ride to and from Deals Gap next month. Did the same trek 3 years in a row on my old 748. She never even batted an eye at the mileage. (except when we got to the dragon... then, she started to drool. it was very strange)

On topic: The new MTS is my new obsession. Too bad I'm broke as a joke. :sadface:

While I was up at Yellowstone, this rider from Dallas said it's the best bike he has ever ridden and owned. He currently has five bikes, including two BMW's, an FZ1, and two cruisers. They stay parked now because of the Multistrada.

Notice the aftermarket windscreen from Cal Scientific. It's wider than the stock.

I spent some time looking at one two weeks ago, other then the $20K price tag, its pretty kewl, the front end likes line a "transformer". I decided it was too much power for me right now.

From a pure performance standpoint it is amazing. Motorcycle Consumer News pointed out that the bike may be too electronic. The reviewers liked the bike, but thought it was getting away from the basics of motoring pleasure.

I have riden the new Multi and I will advise anyone whom is thinking about one. unless you are prepared to buy on don't ride it. the power in combo with the suspension is very adicting. if I had the cash right now I would trade in both of my bikes on one in a heart beat.

I have had my monster now for 5 years and it runs like a top she has 20,000 plus and has never had a real problem just the normal problems that come with an itailian machine of any kind. It was my first bike and I plan on keeping it for a long time it's to fun not to

Quite a bump! I read this thread yesterday before the new flurry of postings. If I was going to upgrade today this bike would make my shortlist. But since I will own my FZ6 for a few more years I don't take anything to seriously since who knows what may be out by then.

Up I test rode the Multistrada yesterday and oh do I want one now! 28000€ = 40000$ for the Touring version here in Finland makes buing one impossible for me though. The riding position is just great, the bike feels very light and flickable and the power/torque output just feels explosive. The V2 sound is of always nice too. And it looks great in some sort of strange techical way. Of course there were the occasional Italian bike thingies like neutrals between gears (I found one between gears 2 and 3 five minutes from the start of the test drive) which is sort of unforgivable for bike this expensive, but I could live with that because the bike is just so great! Going back to FZ6 felt like switching to a moped
