I like to ride with somebody or in a small group. And if I know them beforehand, it's easier to "ride my ride" and not to worry about the others doing something stupid.

Though I have to admit that going by myself gives me a different kind of freedom to go where I want and as fast (/slow) as I want.

good times!!! from the pics it looks like you had fun!! hows the FZ6 hold up with the DUC?

I would say it held up well. He was surprised at my ability to accelerate at freeway speeds. You know, drop a gear and hit it. He couldn't really run a way from me.

But then again he did have a passenger and I did not.

I did lag behind him sometimes on the twisties, but it was more because of a conservative blind curve entry speed on my part. I think he is a little more willing to hit the brakes hard if the turn surprises him.

I almost went off a cliff as it was. Blind curve kept getting tighter, then came the gravel/sand. Nothing but a 2 ft. sand shoulder, then a cliff. (Don't know how high?)

Anyway, needless to say I reeled it in a bit after that :(

Felt like going back home to the wife & kids on my bike instead of in a bag

I hear that, I almost lowsided myself on Saturday. we were riding up in Big Bear I came into a corner as I apexed the corner the front end lost grip and started to go away, it slid out about a foot(at least that's what it felt like!!), I grabbed a handful of gas, the front end hooked back up and I saved it. but needless to say, it was enough to rattle my confidence (in my tires) anyways, so the pace dropped a notch from there!! we still were moving along pretty good but, every time I started to get in a rhythm there would be sand or gravel on the road so I'd slow it back down again. still overall it was a good ride!!

Yeah, I mean that's part of why we ride, the adrenaline right. There is always something risky about riding, even when there is no close call, there is always the unpredictability of the cagers.

I met this lady once when I was younger (she was kind of a whacko - and drunk) she was a new age metaphysical type. She told us about how she was driving one night, the next thing she knew she was in a ditch on the side of the road. (I am sure alcohol had nothing to do with that!) Anyway she said it was karma and you have to be humble, otherwise the universe will throw you in a ditch to put you in your place.

I guess I buy into this a little. I have been riding bikes for a while, a have been to the school of hard knocks, so to speak. But I try not to feel too confident in my riding abilities. Because I guess I really believe that if I do, the universe will throw me into a ditch (or off a cliff) to prove me wrong.

This would really suck in a car. But on a bike.......

Game over man! :Flip:

Scary stories there fellas !! :(

Gonna ride even slower now

Ok .... a little slower :)
I used to go riding with the guys and girls from my parents club. There were about a dozen or so. I was quite inexperienced then to. it dosn't take a rocket scientist to work out who the predictable riders are and who the head bangers are. Just avoid the head bangers. The group should ride at the pace of the slowest riders (me at the time) The guys that pissed off into the distance soon get fed up waiting for the pack. Just relax and enjoy. Only go at the pace you feel comfortable with and you will enjoy the ride much more.

Well, it is my answer. The question mark implies that others may disagree.

I figure why hurry up and get somewhere, you then have to get off of the bike. The whole point of owning the bike is to enjoy the ride as opposed to reaching the destination.

Pretty much the same concept as the earlier post stating that young people pick a destination and older ones pick a direction.

Of course a nice compromise is to pick a direction but go in that direction really fast

All good comments. Went on a 'toy run' once. Two things; was glad to do it (good cause) and even more glad it ended. Yikes! Over a hundred bikes, with a police escort front and rear, side by side and wheel to wheel. I thought, " If someone has a problem, we'll all have a problem." I don't think this is what they had in mind when the idea of bikers "sticking together" was coined. I won't repeat it, but in my minds eye, I can re-live it.

I enjoy both by myself and with others. I am kind of selective who I ride with and will normally ride behind them so I can asscess thier riding as to skill and saftey.

I tend to avoid poker runs (often they include drinking here in FL) and I do not drink while riding with the exception of maybe one beer with a meal

I have riden with some folks only once then "our schedules never seem to work out" -- I can see no value in taking extra risk by riding with an unsafe rider --- this sport is inherently risky with cages and road conditions as well as the speed I amy bring to the table now & then

take care and ride safe

nice n easy

I ride with my brother, when not with him i'm solo. I like riding with my brother because he is laid back, and he doesnt push me, of course my brother and I have a lot of respect for each other. I dont like racing, if someone wants to go faster, go. But i'll go at my own pace. Although I like to have fun too!! FZ6 is a sport bike after all.
If I ever have an opertunity to ride with anyone from this site, I can promise a mature and fun ride. I like to pick a spot, and stick to it. I dont need to pass folks to prove something and I dont get pissed being passed. Guess i'm almost 40 and im almost grown up now?

Next weekend (Friday through Sunday) I'm going to be riding with a large group from my work, and I am thoroughly looking forward to it. We're going to be staying in Heerlen (South east corner of Holland, a couple of miles from the German border), and touring in Germany (well there aren't too many hills in holland).
Last year I did this ride but we went to Trier.
Anyway a couple of days before hand (coming Tuesday) we get all the info, routes, T shirts and extra information. We get a little (self made) book which explains how to ride as a group. OK this can be a bit boring stuff but they livened it up with cartoons and jokes about stuff that can go wrong.
Anyway it was well organised with a leader and a sweeper in each group, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
On the other hand I've also been on a run where nobody seemed to know how to ride in a group, but there was no real info given out before hand, and everyone in the group were changing position constantly, this was really annoying.
I personally think it is partly the organisation (or protocol discussed before hand) and partly the riders involved which makes it a good trip or a pain in the @ss.

Excellent thought and very true....
