HY Guys,

I just got invited to a ride down to NC in October. The dates arent firm yet, but it will be a long weekend in October. Does anyone have any interest in joining us? i know it's a bit early, but I just wanted to get the word out. I'll be riding down again of course.

I would love to go, but I think i'll be waiting till next year. A co-worker just got back a couple days ago from a week down that way. He brought back a dragons tail laminated map. Said the gap was great. Except that 6 sport bikes passed a box delivery truck over the double yellows and forced him, wife and goldwing off into the shoulder. I guess they all just went and passed at the same time. Sounds like you'll have a great trip though.

Pack some sleeves, depending on how late in Oct you go it will get chilly up there on the mtn. The NC/TN mtns are usually ~10 degrees cooler than the foot hills here in NC. Around that time of year we are normally in the mid 60's or so.

Depending on the time, I might be able to ride up there. Its about 4 hours from my house here in charlotte. The 2 wheel Inn has great rates. I would love to get back up there and stay and do th Cherahala as well.

I am only a couple hours from there depending upon what time in October I might be able to meet up with you guys. I could also show you some IMHO better roads within an hour of the Dragon......less cops and higher speed limits over in NC. Late October though I'll most likely be in Daytona for Biketoberfest.

HWY 178, 276, and 215 are some of my favorites. There is a 125 mile look there that is nice!

Are familiar with those rodes. 178 runs into SC.

I will try to make it. Post dates as soon as you can. I schedule shifts about 2 months in advance and once scheduled they are pretty much set in stone. I went 24-28 October last year and it got pretty chilly in the higher elevations, like Cherohala. It was chilly everywhere in the mornings. I would definitely recommend the early part of October.

Yea sure am I like 178 or 276 up to 19/74 across to 28 and up to the TN line and back down 129. I forget how many miles it is but it is a solid day ride from my house.

As long as I don't have my National Guard drill I'm in! I won't know my '09 drill scheduled for another month but it looks like a great place. The photos from the Spring meet were AMAZING! :cheer:

Yea that does sound like a good ride.

I think if I really wanted to I could ride from my house to the gap, do a couple passes and come back in a day. However, by the end I do think my head would be in the right place. I believe I would just be too tired mentaly to react to something if need be.

I want to do another "Gap weekend" soon. Except this time I would love to do some white water rafting as well! To quote my father "Any thing where I have to wear a helment in a boat, Im in!"

Would love to but not enough vacation time for this year. Plus, I'd much rather ride the Dragon in the middle of the week. Weekends are far to crowded there.

I am planning to make it there next year for a week-long tour with a few mid-week runs plus alll the other great roads in and around that area.
