Crazy low-cost alarm system

All I have left is the blue, orange, and gray wires from the alarm. I've got everything else wired up already. If I were to just get the alarm to work, and not the remote start, which ones should I hook up, and where?

Where did you put the pink wire? The pink and the Grey work together. They are in essence the the immobilizer. If you don't want to use the immobilizer then you you are good. The blue wire activates your starter(for remote start) and the orange wire provides power to the accessories(for remote start).

So if you not using remote start the blue and orange won't be used. If your not using the immobilizer then the pink and grey won't be used.

I played around with mine a little more today. I decided to hook the headlights up to one of the flasher leads(yellow). I'll hook the flashers to the other and have the ultimate light display! I also wired it so I can turn just the headlight on.

Here is a short clip to show my progress. It's kinda dark but you'll get the idea.

This thing is crazy loud so I only let it chirp for a couple seconds. Don't want to piss off the neighbors.

Oh, well I guess I'm good then. I forgot, I didn't connect the pink either, you're exactly right. However, when I plug the connector into the module, the alarm immediately starts going off. Should I just disarm it? Wow, I feel like a total noob.

I'm not sure what you talking about. Do you mean when you plug the wiring harness into the small black alarm box? If so then I'm not sure. Have you tried disarming it?

Don't feel like a noob dude! This thing is pretty tricky to wire up.

Yes, when I plug the harness into the black alarm box, the alarm immediately starts going off. I have only connected the grounds, the turn signal wires, and the constant 12v (red) wire directly to the battery. And obviously, I connected the speaker as well.

I was leaving the rest of the wires disconnected because:
(A) I wasn't sure where to connect them on the bike, and
(B) because I thought that those wires were required for the alarm part to work as well.

I haven't tried disarming it yet, because I figured since it was getting constant power, that it was just going off because I haven't hooked up any switched 12v wire. Obviously, I wasn't thinking because the alarm part shouldn't need a switched wire if it will need to be armed while the bike's not running. (Duh)

That's strange, mine didn't do that. Try disarming it and see what happens. Make sure you don't allow those extra leads to dangle around. Both the yellows are hot when the alarm is going and they can easily ground out on your frame.

Well, I hooked it up last night, and of course, it immediately started going off. I disconnected the speaker, noticed it was still going off, and pressed the unlock button twice, and VOILA!! It works!!!

I'll do the remote start some other time. I'm just glad I got the alarm working.

Let us know what kind of realistic FM range you guys get out of that "Steelmate" alarm, okay? I can't get much range from my Scoripio and I'm curious how yours is---if it's about the same or better. I already know the Scorpio was WAY more expensive than the $30-40 you guys spent to get it.

I brought the Steelmate 986E took it and my KTM rc 125 to the shop to be installed only for them to tell me it can't be installed after 1.5 hours of work.
Does any know if this alarm can infact be installed on my bike and if so has anyone got a 'how to' or better instructions or step by step guide. As I understand it the mechanic could not work out the instructions.

Is there a pdf of the instructions and a wiring diagram for your bike the we can see? There's a possibility the person just doesn't have enough experience with electrical to install it and they did take a good recourse to say they don't understand and pass it on.

The installation instructions are not good. This is probably why the tech will not install the device and I also would not guess or experiment with your bike regarding installment of this alarm/security device.

There are 2 different schematics. One is an AC ECU install and the other is a DC ECU install. Both schematics depict an AC ECU unit. It may confuse an installer when called out as an ECU unit when they might call it an alarm or security unit. The relay connection is not clear except that it defines it as a normally closed relay. It looks like the relay coil should terminate at ground but it does not. It just terminates to an unknown. Probably ground but not called out. The ignition switch is also unclear in it's switching. It is not defined and in fact one ignition switch shows a terminal that is ground.

Given the documentation I would not suggest wiring this to your bike and this is probably why the tech would not do it. We could guess what is meant but if it is not clear I would not try to install this, as damaging electronics in the bike might cost more than having the bike stolen which might be covered by insurance.

Scorpio i900r Also cover your bike and lock with a disc and chain or cable. The longer it takes to take your bike the less chance they will want it. The less they see the less temptation.
