Cranks but doesn't start

Hello,

I have a 2008 FZ6. When I bought it, it had been sitting for a little and needed to be bump started every other time. I replaced the battery (with a lithium-ion battery) but dropped the fuel tank and broke off the fuel line connector. I bought a new housing and replaced that. I also soldered the fuel level sensor wires (as they became disconnected from the connector in the fuel pump) but when I go to start the bike, it will crank but it will not start. I can feel the fuel pump priming when I flip the killswitch. I also replaced the coil packs and have determined that I am getting spark. I put the bike in diagnostic mode and the fuel injectors are spraying fuel when the bike cranks. I have tried spraying starter fluid in the airbox (with the air filter removed) while cranking but the bike will still not start. I have also tried starting while connecting a 12V 35-T car battery with jumper cables as well as bump starting and it still will not start.
 
I grounded the coil pack and tried starting and it sparked. I also grounded the plug and that gave out electricity.
Yeah......No .... don't do that. You could damage the coil primary windings by doing that. If you're seeing spark at the plug you're good.
 
Got any other suggestions then? I'll pull the plug and see if it's wet.
When you changed the coil packs did you get the primary wire configuration reassembled as it was assembled originally? If you got the negative side of the coils swapped you may have 1 and 4 firing when it should be 2 and 3.
 
You may have done some damage when you grounded the coil pack. If you have a multimeter you can check the resistance of the primary and secondary windings. Off the top of my head you should have 2-3 ohms on the primary and 11-12k ohms on the secondary. If checking through the spark plug caps the resistance will be about 1k ohms higher.
 
When you grounded the coil you may have caused high current. The coil grounding is a very short momentary pulse. If you grounded the negative side of the primary it should not have been attached to the negative wire that goes to the ECU switching transistors. Test to see that you now have voltage on the positive primary connection on the coils while the key is in the on position. The kill switch also needs to be in the on position.
If you don't see voltage you may have blown the fuse that supplies the coils.
