Clutch cable,O8 FZ6N

Hi from down under tell me, my clutch cable goes accross the key hole is this normal can't be surely Yamaha in there wisdom would not make it like this i have just bought this bike.tks Charlie

yep its a pain
you can run a zip tie around the handle bar and pull it a little out of the way
i have a naked and ended up undoing the cable at the lever, took the headlight off and re routed the cable a bit to add some more slack
on the faired version the cable entwrs the frame a bit differently so does not get in the way quite so much
ill take a pic of mine in the morning youll be able to see how much mine crosses the ignition
its a bit of a bugger but its a great riding bike so hopefully youll forgive this little hassle

Tks for tne reply look forward to the photo,useing cable tie at the moment,will the yz1 handle bars fix the vibration only small but??? am reading they will but i must say nothing like my Harley:thumbup:Charlie

the clip goes around the bar under the clamp and keeps the cable clear enough of the ignition.

as far as the vibrations go, the motor is reknowned for being a bit buzzy,
a few solutions that have been tried are filling the stock bar with lead shot or silicon or sand. some people have used a "bar snake" which I have never seen but I think is like a bunch of lead sinkers in a plastic sleeve.
I have used HVMP bar ends which are 17 oz each and look pretty cool in stainless, they cost about $80 plus shipping but they are pretty good.
The angle on the FZ1 bars is flatter which for many is good for the wrist angle. I am happy with the stock bars. The other thing for the buziiness is using "grip puppies" or as I did, used foam hot water pipe insulation, the same stuff surfers use on the car roof racks to protect their boards. it works ok but does compress after 3 months.

Tks tell me where did you you fit the air horn this one is hopeless, had one on my harley and they are loud,will stick with the bars and give the grips a change and see .

Hi Peter,
I ended up taking the stock horn off its mount on the lh side and put the stebel in its place with a modded bracket. I ran everything thru a relay so as to preserve the horn button.
I have since put the stock horn on centrally under the headlight to get a tri tone and to ensure there is noise immediately, not having to wait for a build up of compressed air. Sounds pretty loud

Re-routing the clutch cable - one of the best mods done on my bike!

BEWARE: Once you start modding on the FZ6, it's hard to stop LOL

Tks Karen not sure i want to do much to it we will see have been building bikes for a long time bit over it age 72 mainly harley's,this is the first time on a Yamaha and you know what it goe's around corners Ha,Just fitted a centre stand thinking of a radiator guard not sure if to buy from dealer or look around anyway will post some photo's soon.charlie

Is there any reason you can't put a "Faired version" clutch cable on which bends down 90 degrees right out of the clutch perch? It goes directly down into the frame.

I wouldn't think it'd be an issue as its NOT super long and if anything, probably shorter than that long cable (the naked version) that goes in front of the ignition switch...
