Hey guys i know youve all heard it before as far as clutch cable adjustment goes
But i have a slight problem, ive just installed a new clutch cable
All went well now its all bedded in it needed adjusting again
Ive adjusted the one on the clutch lever and its almost fully adjusted without falling out
And i know what your going to say Adjust the other one by the air box,
Well i have thats fully adjusted too to the point where its almost falling off the thread
They both cant be fully adjusted and only just be sat right can it?
Is my cable too long? I definitely havent bought the wrong one?
My question is can the nipples at both ends of the cable
Be cut off and relocated 1-2cm down the cable? Because i feel in the future if it needs adjustimg again i wont be able to because its already fully adjusted?
Please help boffins!!!
Yours sincerely
Danny :p

I gather you bought an aftermarket cable, NOT a GENUINE Yamaha cable? If so, order a new Genuine, YAMAHA cable, replace it and trash the Flea-bay cable..

You really don't want to mess with hacking up that cable. Should it break/fail while on the road, you have some serious issues.... If its stretched this far while this new, it wasn't manufactured with any standards to speak of...

I have the original cable on my 07, 17,000 miles, both adjusters are maybe halfways out. Lubing it certainly helps extend the life of it too...

Good luck...

Yeah its from slinky glide it seems to be of high qaulity
I came to the conclusion the actual wire its just too long
I dont want to mess around cutting it up i spent my last bit
Of money until i get paid on that bastard cable, its fine for now
I just feel in the future it would br impossible to adjust any further
Perhaps ill just buy a genuine yamaha cable :)

If it stretched that quick, it'll keep stretching.

+1 on just replaceing it with OEM, its not worth possibly crashing when you loose your clutch..

(Please keep it in mind when riding of the potential failure).

Sorry for the bad news.

Just found the site: http://slinky-glide.co.uk/

IMHO, I'd be on the phone, returning it and get some $ back to put towards the NEW cable

Another vote to go with Yamaha's OEM cable. I replaced the one on my '07 since prev owner didn't keep it lubed. Big difference.

I dont think its stretched guys im pretty sure its just too long in the first place, but yeah i dont think it will fail at any point i just wont be able to adjust it much further in the future
Thats why i was curious about shortening the cable
Because it feels great smooth and silky not stiff and sticky
But if i have to ill get the original cable ahhhhh

You can't shorten the inner cable unless you have the maufacturers machine that makes the cables. To extend the outside, I don't know how you'd do that.

*If that company actually makes the cables, call them and have them make a replacement cable to FACTORY SPEC'S and shorten up the INNER CABLE.

The issues your having is typical of NON, OEM PARTS unfortunatly.. For another couple of $, you wouldn't have had to post this thread.... Just something to keep in mind when buying a critical operational part in the future..
