Has anyone heard a clicking sound from their engine. Just sounds like something is sticking or not fully lubed. It runs great, maybe I'm just hearing what's considered to be normal engine noise.

Any suggestions or ideas.

Thanks.

i think mine is doing the same thing.... i keep telling myself im hearing things haha... i think the consensus from the forum is that it is normal... someone correct me if im mistaken...

if it's the tick these other guys have no biggie... if it's the tick mine had??? I never found out what it was but I no longer own the bike.

I was told it was the valves closing, apparently the springs are so tight to keep the valves closing in time at the high rpms that you are hearing the valves closing. He could have been wrong but it sounds like a pretty good idea.

I have it too. In fact, whenever I listed to the engine I think I hear something odd - especially when I stand next to it and rev the engine.

It's all normal I suspect. It's no V-4 in the sound department, but it's a reliable, well-built bike for a relatively cheap price.

I have it too. started when i first got the bike. took it to 3 dealers to make sure. was told at everyone of them that yamaha's are notorious for the clicking. Nothing to worry about. 10K later the bike still clicks, but no bike problems at all.

I was told by 1 dealer to use a little heavyer oil and it will help quiet it down. You get used to the noise or just get an Ipod

Mine has the 5000 RPM buzz and the occasional engine clicks, I don't like it but try to ignore it, several garages have said there is nothing wrong, and the bike runs fine, so c'est la vie.

I just got on to search about it as well. I have a feeling that it's just valve chatter, but it still doesn't set well with me. I'm going to switch to my favorite brand of synthetic and see if that helps at all.

Well, the consensus is that the ticking is normal. I'll buy that. I've put quite a few miles on my bike in the past 2 months and no ill effects. After all, the bike performs flawlessly so far. I can't go anywhere without getting a few comments about it.

Thanks for everyones input. Knowledge in numbers.
