Cleaning off tar properly

Somewhere along my travels i kicked up a thick string of goupy, sticky tar all up on my mudflap. I just left it there out fear that i would smear it in.

My one friend suggested bug and tar remover - which sort of freaks me out. I don't want it to melt my plastic.

Another friend told me heat it up with a blowdrier and use paint thinner!

I don't like either ideas, has anybody encountered this? If so how did you clean it off without doing damage and or making it worse?

Kerosene / Paraffin. WD40 is also good.

Heating it up and using paint thinner may mean you end up with a fender that looks like an overcooked potato chip.

I've never had bug & tar remover hurt anything (never tried it on a windscreen though and probably wouldn't)

Your FZ has mud flaps?
What's on them? NAPA or CAT, perhaps those chrome strippers??

Baby Oil will remove tar with no issues at all.

WD40, it works very well for chain lube glup.

Mudguard? Mudflap? I don't know what you people call.

And thanks, I'll try WD40 and or baby oil as that sounds the least corrosive to plastic. I'll go from there - thanks!

bird, bug, and tar woill work fine with no ill effects or Goo Gone. Neither should hurt plastic. Now WD-40 on the other hand is a petrolleum solvent. Think about it.

Surfing and roofing have both taught me that tar will come off with baby oil. Not sure why it works but it does.

But wife,baby oil,sheet less waterbed can be fun too.:thumbup:
