changing footrest return spring

Anyone replaced the spring on the Left hand footrest?
the right hand side is a doddle, undo the split pin and the the securing pivot pin slides straight out
The left hand side: take out the split pin and you can move the pivot pin but it snags on the gear lever pivot. Is this easy to undo or is it a pain to re-set the postioning of the lever, any advice before I get into will be most welcome

I replaced the left foot peg spring once before. I did have to remove the shift lever as well to get it out and it was a little bit of a pain. The good news is that it will set right back into place when you are reinstalling it. It will also give you a chance to regrease the joints on the shift lever.

did you undo all the joints or just that allen key bolt at the pivot point of the actual gear shift lever?
If I have to I'll undo the lot but as you can imagine the job goes from a 10 minute quickie to a full half -one hour by the tiome you frigg around with everyting.
BTW do you know size split pin they use is it 1.6 mm?

I pulled out all the parts to the pivot point. Once that is out the rest of it is loose enough to get out of the way so you can replace the spring. As for the pin...I think I just bent it back into place as best as I could.

**Oh, and when you are undoing the joint you will have to give it a hard turn. I felt like I was about to break the bike when I was taking mine off. Also, you should pull up the diagram for that joint from yamaha motor.com because there are a couple washers and layers to that joint.

Thanks, had the same problem today, already spoiled one allen key trying to open that gearshift joint. Went bigger and got it open now and was able to swap the footpeg to left side too. Happy days.

I bought two springs and had to swap the rh peg spring last week, so I give them 18 months and I'll buy them in pairs everytime now
