Chain Lube & Cleaner

Hi All,

Can someone please let me know the absolute best chain lube and chain cleaner for my baby FZ6. I usually only buy top of the line products for my top of the line bike ... :Sport:

I also am a fan of Maxima, if the chain gets gunky it can be cleaned well by WD-40, Kerosene, or Simple green...

I like Bel Ray Super Clean best - fewer dealers around here seem to have it these days. It looks whitish when dry so you can tell where you've missed.

Dupont makes a good one too that you can find at any Lowes - easier to find and smells like coconut! Dries clear.

Not to start yet ANOTHER thread on this topic, but I don't clean the chain with either product. I use either kerosene or WD-40 on a rag. Then I spray with chain lube once dry.

Whaaaa? Are we supposed to lube the chain? What fer? You sure? I've heard of oiling fan belts, accessory belts on a car but on a drive chain? Alright, seriously, doesn anyone know of a SMALL aerosol can of chain lube? You know, one that is like the mini WD-40 cans and that one can easily carry in one's pocket. I don't like how all I can find are relatively large cans of chain lube---they're bulky to carry around on long tours.

Repsol markets a 150ml can. They are about $5/ea

i always use Dupont Teflon for lubing and kerosene to clean the chain....
my old bike had a hawke-oiler auto chain oiler for long trips but because you can only use thick regular motor oil with those auto oilers so it always made a mess....i only had to use it once...

i love my dupont teflon :thumbup:

Dupont teflon dry lube. No mess, no muss, no fuss. It works and it works well. It stays clean and does not attract and hold road dirt or grime. Hook on up and you to will say. Dupont Teflon Dry Lube FTW!!!!:rockon:

..except I can't find any! The closest I can find is Coleman Camp Fuel, which is /not/ kerosene.

Where (in the USA) would one go to buy kerosene? (please don't say "camping stores", as the only one near me is an REI).

Hardware store? Wal Mart? people still use Kerosene lanterns (ambiance or Amish) so it must be available. Also some fuel companies sell it as some older homes still use Kerosene heat.

Nope. Wal-Mart has none. Just Coleman Camp Fuel.

Exxon sells it through their home heating oil division... maybe contacting them? or maybe even through their gas station chain?

I use a cleaner designed for motorcyle chains, but I can't think of the name, it comes in a blue can and I lube my chain with PJ-1.:rockon:

You can get kerosene at lowes during the summer but it is insanely expesnive.

Just wait till winter and buy a gallon or two at a gas station.

Well, around here they sell it at gas stations (Texaco in my part of town). Just look around. It's going to be a "normal" looking pump, but don't look in the normal places. It might be on the side of the station and you might even have to walk to get to it. For obvious reasons since people in a hurry to "gas and go" can be real dumb. Around here we use it in kerosene heaters as well as to clean chains

As for gas stations, there's really not much call for kerosene heaters in silicon valley, so if there are stations that carry kerosene, they're certainly not common.
