As for gas stations, there's really not much call for kerosene heaters in silicon valley, so if there are stations that carry kerosene, they're certainly not common.
Sorry. Didn't think about the climate difference. You might try Simple Green. I've cleaned many a bicycle chain with that and I'm going to test it on the FZ soon. Planning to do about 2500 miles next week and I'm sure it will need a good cleaning by the time I get back.

I think diesel can be substituted for kerosine
I think charcoal starter fluid is kerosene that is filtered. You can find it anywhere.
