Buying a FZ6, should I hold out for a S2?

Just wondering on people's opinions. I'm keeping an eye around for a FZ6 (I'm in no major rush) but there doesn't seem to be many new model s2 on the market here in Ireland. Should I be patient and hold out for one to come along or will the an earlier 2007 be much different.

fueling is slightlyh improved on the newer ones, other than that they are pretty identical, just choose the one you like the look of most, and has been best maintained

Like Greg said fuelling is improved on the S2....plus you get the newer swing arm, and black engine, ( not silver ) and better styled passenger foot rests.

Don't mean to thread jack but kinda wanna clarify something a bit...I've got different answers before so what exactly makes one an s2? Just 2007 and up? (wiki says they have more HP...true?)

As far as I can tell the S2 has the same hp but they brought out a budget non s2 with lower hp in 2007 also. I use the link below to work out model I'm looking at

Awesome thanks! Non s2 version doesn't come in my color....so 97 HP it is!

There is 0 difference in the 78 and 98 hp models engine all it is is a restriction on the throttle bodies which is very easily removed. So if you can find a 78hp one cheeper go for it then pull the restriction. It's basicly just a plastic stop to keep the butterflies from opening all the way from the way I understand it.

The engine is black on the '06 bikes too.

Is the newer swingarm any stiffer or otherwise better, or is it pretty much an aesthetic change?

I think that on S2 swingarm it is easier to align the rear wheel after setting the chain slack. I have an '04 and wouldn't upgrade to an S2. If you find a low milage <'07 then buy it and ride it!

fuelling is improved on the 07 plus and added more catalysers due to emissions.the o7 gained the 4pot calipers as opposed to the sliding 2pots on the s1 - other than that its a question which style you like best. the 07 have a digi analog dash, whereas the s1 have a round digital cluster (i like them both but the 07 lights nicer and is clearer to read), the swingarm and passenger pegs are nicer in the 07 while the fairing is nicer on the s1, thats my opinion anyway, so go for the chepest and best maintained you can find

Can the PCV do a "learn mode" on an FZ6 with an O2 sensor? Is that worth considering? All options in that arena (PCIII, Dyno, PCV, ECU Unleashed. Any others?) seem to be comparably priced. If you could do JUST the PCV it would save a little $, but still wouldn't be as good as a PCV plus dyno, I don't believe.

Like turbid said, it should boil down to what's available at what price with how reasonable or motivated a seller. I like my S1 a lot. I've ridden an S2 and I couldn't say which I liked better. The S2 felt smoother, but was younger, so that's expected. Given the age difference, I'm not sure I could tell any difference, apart from the braking. Maybe the throttle on mine feels a little less "tame"? Anybody else rode both?

I've owned both as faired Fazers and deffo prefer the S2 by a small margin.
Smoother, better rear hangers, slightly better looking(IMHO), and slightly easier to read tacho.
Yes the swing arm is more solid and classy looking and a shade easier to adjust tho I doubt it performs much better. These things are all made down to a price after all.
'The Pillion' certainly prefers the later seat for comfort and less slide forward tho again there's not that much in it.

All down to preference in the end.

My fave: 'Faster' 08 blue, black engine and frame.

I had the older FZS6 square headlight and now I have the FZ6S2 2009 model black engine.

I tried a silver engine Fazer FZ6 and personally I thought the new one far better and the seat more comfortable but then if you are buying second hand bikes every one will be different- I tried two FZ6S2's and they were both different to each other- I guess how they have been treated by the previous owners?
