Only in America.
My buddy and I just got back from a 140 mile round trip ride to Cabela's in Scarborough, Maine. We went to the gun section, which was about the size of my neighborhood. They must have had thousands of different types of hand guns and rifles. Even their stock of BB and pellet guns was the biggest I've ever seen.
As we were looking, a thirty something looking year old guy walks up and picks out a $1000 Smith and Wesson 44 Magnum Dirty Harry looking gun. He shows them his license, they make a quick call to the police for a background check and after handing over a giant wad of $20 bills he's good to go in under 15 minutes. I said "it's that easy?". He said "Yep!" "You don't have to have a license to carry?" "Not in Maine...or NH for that matter." He asks where I'm from and I say MA. He says "ah, too bad dude. In Mass you need a "permit to carry."
The guy behind the counter nods in agreement. So my friend and I are talking to the young man and the guy at the counter and it's just unbelievable to me. If I lived in NH or Maine (or probably a dozen other states, I could just pull out the credit card and walk away with an arsenal of guns and rifles. And ammo! Don't even get me started on that! Huge cases of bullets everywhere. Only in America!
