My buddy and I just got back from a 140 mile round trip ride to Cabela's in Scarborough, Maine. We went to the gun section, which was about the size of my neighborhood. They must have had thousands of different types of hand guns and rifles. Even their stock of BB and pellet guns was the biggest I've ever seen.

As we were looking, a thirty something looking year old guy walks up and picks out a $1000 Smith and Wesson 44 Magnum Dirty Harry looking gun. He shows them his license, they make a quick call to the police for a background check and after handing over a giant wad of $20 bills he's good to go in under 15 minutes. I said "it's that easy?". He said "Yep!" "You don't have to have a license to carry?" "Not in Maine...or NH for that matter." He asks where I'm from and I say MA. He says "ah, too bad dude. In Mass you need a "permit to carry."

The guy behind the counter nods in agreement. So my friend and I are talking to the young man and the guy at the counter and it's just unbelievable to me. If I lived in NH or Maine (or probably a dozen other states, I could just pull out the credit card and walk away with an arsenal of guns and rifles. And ammo! Don't even get me started on that! Huge cases of bullets everywhere. Only in America!
 
That is absoulutley wonderful.

It makes me happy inside to know that honest lawabiding citizens can purchase firearms for the defense of thier own property, lives, and the lives and property of thier loved ones. We also have the option of keeping our rights thru force against oppresive government, and the ability to resist any invasion of our country.

During the American Revolution, the active forces in the field against the King's tyranny never amounted to more than 3% of the colonists. They were in turn actively supported by perhaps 10% of the population. In addition to these revolutionaries were perhaps another 20% who favored their cause but did little or nothing to support it. Another one-third of the population sided with the King (by the end of the war there were actually more Americans fighting FOR the King than there were in the field against him) and the final third took no side, blew with the wind and took what came.

Three Percenters today do not claim that we represent 3% of the American people, although we might. That theory has not yet been tested. We DO claim that we represent at least 3% of American gun owners, which is still a healthy number somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 million people. History, for good or ill, is made by determined minorities. We are one such minority. So too are the current enemies of the Founders' Republic. What remains, then, is the test of will and skill to determine who shall shape the future of our nation.

See you cant just walk in a buy a gun if you are a criminal, or are accused or convicted of domestic violence, or mentally ill, or convicted felon.

If you are a upright honest citizen there is no reason why you shouldnt own a gun. In my mind every American should be trained in the use of a long gun, own a long gun, have 150 rounds of ammunition for that gun, and 3 days of food supplies.
 
P.S.

I bought a little more ammo today. Every week 20-40 rounds. Sure hope I dont need them, but if I do I dont want to wish I did.

Of course, there are those who suggest that democratically-elected public officials would never do anything seriously harmful to the American people. But let's look at just a few 20th Century examples: They confiscated people's gold. They repudiated gold clauses in government debts. They provoked the Japanese into attacking Pearl Harbor and then acted like they were surprised. They incarcerated Japanese-Americans for no crime at all. They injected dangerous, mind-altering drugs into American servicemen without their knowledge. They radiated the American people in the Pacific Northwest and then deliberately hid it from them. They have surreptitiously confiscated and plundered people's income and savings through the Federal Reserve System. They have plundered and terrorized the citizenry through the IRS. And, most recently, they have sent our fellow citizens to their deaths thousands of miles away in the pursuit of a relatively insignificant cause. Those who believe that democratically-elected rulers lack the potential and inclination for destructive conduct against their citizenry are living in la-la land.

Yay America.

As far as I know to carry concealed in any state that allows it you must have a carry permit.

To open carry, you just have to live here in one of the non crazy states.

You are transported magicly back in time to 1300. You are on the east coast of the US with the ocean at your back.

You have a horse, a mule, 500 water proof matches, your choice of one knife, one long gun, one pistol, 500 rounds for both guns, (if you like they may both use the same caliber) one coat, one tent, and 50 lbs of supplies.

If you make it to the Pacific ocean alive you are transported back to 2009.

What would you take?

Remember hostile native americans, bears, wolves, mountain lions, poison snakes, and 100s of other ways to die horribly.

Although I respect your right to own a gun , even though I don't agree with it,I would have thought a permit would be mandatory.Even in a free society there are still people who should not own one and a permit would help identify these people ,not eliminate it ,but it would help surely ?
 
I'd take the mule and a chest of beads so I could buy and barter with the locals. :thumbup:

NH Law
RSA159:4 Carrying Without License. – No person shall carry a loaded pistol or revolver in any vehicle or concealed upon his person, except in his dwelling, house or place of business, without a valid license therefor as hereinafter provided. A loaded pistol or revolver shall include any pistol or revolver with a magazine, cylinder, chamber or clip in which there are loaded cartridges. Whoever violates the provisions of this section shall, for the first such offense, be guilty of a misdemeanor. For the second and for each subsequent violation of the provisions of this section, such person shall be guilty of a class B felony, provided such second or subsequent violation has occurred within 7 years of the previous conviction.

Still totally worth the process, if you choose to carry...

And..159:6 License to Carry. –
I. The selectmen of a town or the mayor or chief of police of a city or some full-time police officer designated by them respectively, upon application of any resident of such town or city, or the director of state police, or some person designated by such director, upon application of a nonresident, shall issue a license to such applicant authorizing the applicant to carry a loaded pistol or revolver in this state for not less than 4 years from the date of issue, if it appears that the applicant has good reason to fear injury to the applicant's person or property or has any proper purpose, and that the applicant is a suitable person to be licensed. Hunting, target shooting, or self-defense shall be considered a proper purpose. The license shall be valid for all allowable purposes regardless of the purpose for which it was originally issued. The license shall be in duplicate and shall bear the name, address, description, and signature of the licensee. The original shall be delivered to the licensee and the duplicate shall be preserved by the people issuing the same for 4 years. When required, license renewal shall take place within the month of the fourth anniversary of the license holder's date of birth following the date of issuance. The license shall be issued within 14 days after application, and, if such application is denied, the reason for such denial shall be stated in writing, the original of which such writing shall be delivered to the applicant, and a copy kept in the office of the person to whom the application was made. The fee for licenses issued to residents of the state shall be $10, which fee shall be for the use of the law enforcement department of the town granting said licenses; the fee for licenses granted to out-of-state residents shall be $20, which fee shall be for the use of the state. The director of state police is hereby authorized and directed to prepare forms for the licenses required under this chapter and forms for the application for such licenses and to supply the same to officials of the cities and towns authorized to issue the licenses. No other forms shall be used by officials of cities and towns. The cost of the forms shall be paid out of the fees received from nonresident licenses.

Oh no problem man, I didnt take it that way.

No we dont need permits. Of course there are people that shouldnt have guns. For some reason they dont buy them legally anyway. Usually they steal them. Then use them to shoot innocent unarmed people, sometimes after raping them sometimes not.

We have a simple system that I think the OP missed. It is a instant background check against a FBI database and your social security number and birthdate.

Miss match name, social security number or birthdate and it flags. NO GUN.
Have a record? it flags no gun.

Have a name that a criminal used as a alias, or a name of a convicted felon or match birthdays and get close on social security then it turns into a ten day waiting period while the FBI does a check to insure you are who you say you are.

Its not as simple as it looks.

If you are a upstanding citizen with a picture ID and a valid social security number walk in walk out with what ever you want pretty much.

I bought a SKS in 20 minutes with ammo outside of my own state. Backgound check was done in 10 minutes the rest was paperwork and final inspection of the gun before laying down the money.
 
Maine requires a permit to carry concealed.
New Hampshire does too, but it's incredibly easy to get one if you're a resident.
Both states are "shall issue" states, which mean as long as you're not a felon, wife beater, or mentally incompetent, then you pay the fee, fill out the form, take the training class, and you got a permit.

Most states in the US are shall issue. Some are "may issue", and only Illinois and Wisconsin deny their citizens any carrying rights.

California is a "may issue" state, which means you can only get a permit if you are
A. Rich, B. A movie star, C. A judge, or D. Liquor store owner who spends most of their time in the store

I think 1700 would be a much better time frame. In the 1300's Only native americans inhabited the continent, and firearms technology elsewhere was pretty basic.

And who gets to decide who gets a permit and who doesn't? Our system isn't perfect but unless you've shown you shouldn't be trusted with a weapon you have every right to own one.:Flash:

OK now that my head is in much pain...I am more confused with the question than any answer i could give...

But in regards to OP, I live in NY and its one of the everyone needs a permit to carry states. Well that is if you want to be legal about it...but tell that to the lawless freaks that can do whatever they want, while I hide out and avoid areas when I have my kids in the car. Because I have not gone to file for my permit and wait the 18 months or more it would take to get it and the close to $200 plus $9 per handgun to register. As you can tell I do not like that choices I have...

Or I could win the lotto and move to a better state...and take my tax money with me.:Flip::rockon:
