anyone with the ohlins steering damper?

the site says it fits 04-05. but 06 is the same so not sure why they didn't say it. as far as i know it can fit 07+ too if we use the pre 06 bar clamps, right? can someone with more knowledge on this confirm?

not sure if its just me, the fizz's steering feels feather light at slow speeds, i'd rather it become stiffer. can the damper do this or is there another way? i remember there's a debate whether the fizz needs it or not so lets not go there

Wolfman has one on his track bike.

All you need to do is replace the 07 clamp with the 06 and you are good to go.

I've heard the Ohlins is very, very good and give a finer level of control and adjustability over the radial ones.

Yes the ohlins is worth every penny you will pay for it!

I also picked up a Matris steering damper on closeout sale. It's a lot like Wolfman's Ohlins type damper. That's what inspired me in that direction. I saw Jamie's cup bike and I knew the FZ's steering could use a little help. When I installed it I was more than happy with the change in the bike's feel and realized that the steering needed more help than I'd imagined. You won't be sorry with this improvement especially if you do more spirited riding. :rockon:

For those who like to ride the wheels off their bike...a steering damper is a must...and don't listen to the nay Sayers...if you go hard...steering damper rocks...and the matris damper is a good compromise price wise to the ohlins...

And I alway's tought the FZ6 didn't need a steering damper, but when you're flat on the gas out of a corner and getting back in the straight line pos ... the bike can get a little scary bull like .

yeah i think im getting the matris too. so there's m2, m3 and m4 version. m3 is $100 more than m2. m4 is only about $30 more than the m3.

im not sure which one to get. what do you think?

I came up with the same site. I have the M3. I believe it's an upgraded internal piston. from the M1 but the price I found on the close out was like $213 plus tax.

Also try Cycle Sector who is one of this sites supporting vendors....In fact I would try them first.

Man, that's a lot of coin...still, the Ohlins steering Damper is awesome...18 steps of adjustment, from full off, to full on...easy to adjust on the go...and each click of adjustment is noticeable....

Only downside that i can think of, is that if you dont get the mount bracket placed exactly where it should be to the millimetre, it will touch your bars, and make a very loud vibrating sound...i fixed it by putting a very fine layer of rubber inbetween the steering damper mount, and the handlebar.

Certain retailers, mainly on the web, will offer very good prices if you call or email them. Other brands you can get cheaper are AlpineStar, Dainese, etc. It never hurts to ask for a discount. Also if you are affiliated with a group, military, retired, union, AAA, etc. my net you 5 to 20% off. I always ask for a military discount. Cycle Gear gives me 20% off. :cheer:

I actually adjust it so that it has no input towards steering at all, when commuting, cruising, etc....there is no need for it until things start getting serious in sports mode. So you can basically turn it off.

I will also say that it is very good to have when touring 2 up....can help with the lightness you get in your front end, on take off's, etc, when there is all the extra weight over the back wheel.
