Not just same size.. pretty much SAME motor (pulled from R1), but tuned for more low end.

My quote for full coverage on FZ1 with 100k/300k/50k was $250 for the year. :D

Who are you insured with?

I'm over 30, have the same limits with $1,000 deductibles, a perfect driving record and no traffic violations, accidents or insurance claims ever and I'm still paying $480/year on my FZ6 in central VA. I would think NJ would have higher rates due to it's proximity to major city areas (Philly/NYC)

I'm pretty sure Erci is superhuman when it comes to insurance rates.

I'm 29, have a totally clean record, and Progressive wanted $1600/yr to insure my FZ6 with 100k/300k full coverage. I got the same limits from Rider for $480/yr.

I don't even want to know what an R6 or literbike would be.

When I first bought my FZ6 at age 27 I was quoted $420/yr on the FZ6 or $1,020/yr on an R6. So 2-3X more would probably be pretty standard. Looking at this another way...I can put enough gas in my FZ6 in a year to travel 7,900 miles with the insurance savings alone over owning an R6! (and that is with gas at near $4/gal)

Progressive. 1st year was $260. 2nd year they dropped it to $200. And they're the ones who quoted me $250 for FZ1.

I'm 36, own a house, have a college degree and have taken a safety course less than a year ago. I know they consider all those factors to come up with rate.

My bad.. I have 50/100/25. Very low deductible though.

39 years old and clean record. $380 a year w/medical on the 6. $720 a year on the Busa with State Farm. Progressive wanted $3800 a year for the Busa alone.
My son @ 21 with one ticket and 1 wreck(not his fault) was $18,000 a year for a GSXR 1k with Progressive.

You do have comprehensive and collision coverage on the bike, right?

I'm going to get a quote with Progressive. I have nationwide because it was cheapest when I first got my bike, quoted with Geico a few months ago and even though my car insurance is with them their quote was 20% higher than I currently pay with nationwide!

I'm 32, own a house, married, have a college degree and have the MSF endorsement....I'll let you know what they quote me.

EDIT: HOLY CRAP! Apparently I've been getting hosed by Nationwide!

Progressive's quote is $174 for 12 months!
That is with 50K/100K/25K liability coverages and $500 deductibles on Comp/Collision. I'm currently paying $480/12 months with Nationwide for equal coverages.:eek::eek:

Here's the discounts Progressive has me eligible for:
HomeOwner's Discount
Motorcycle Endorsement Discount
Paid-In-Full Discount
Responsible Driver Discount
Transfer/Prior Insurance Discount

Glad I looked into this!

I got quoted $228.94 for liability only through progressive. For a decent policy they want $2887 a year. That's for $100k/300k/50k and $1k deductible.

I'm 28, married, in the military, took the safety and sport bike course last year. But I've only been riding about 15 months or so.

Living in FL, especially the largest city on the East Coast has a lot to do with that I'm guessing...that and just over a year experience.

With that kind of quote you are better off with liability only (assuming you have the title).

I took one for a spin as well during a demo ride when they stopped in Nashville. The powerband is awesome, and the ergos felt alot like the FZ6 to me. I didn't like the way the bike turned into corners though. It felt heavy, and took a good solid press to get it to lean over, compared to the ease of turning the FZ6 has. I would personally still take my FZ6 over the ninja 1000.

Well I guess my $78 is pretty good then. Of course they also insure my car and truck.

It's just one more reason that I'm waiting to jump up to a super sport. I have full coverage on the FZ6 with $250 deductibles, and I pay just over $800 a year.

Ok, so i did some checking around. Looks like Kawa messed up big time when they named this bike. Insurance companies think it is a supersport.

I may as well get the ZX-10R. Ridiculous!! :Flip:

I have a request in with one of the dealers I visited, to provide a Vin # to get an accurate quote.

Using Progressive insurance for the 6 now and the rates rock!!

The Vin# quote should be very telling.

I will report findings back here when I have something.

OK... so I was able to get a VIN# so no more guessing.

I attached the coverage I carry for the FZ6 and the FZ6 costs $336 this policy period for 1 year with Progressive

The Ninja 1000 cost?? Just $198 more per year same coverage :D

I am 47, house, married, no tickets or accidents, safety course. The bike is the only vehicle I have with Progressive insurance

Just switched to Progressive.

I was paying $480/year with Nationwide for 25K/50K/25K liability, no medical expense coverage and $1,000 deductibles on comp/collison.

Now I'm paying $261/year with Progressive for 250K/500K/250K liability, $5,000 medical expense coverage and $500 deductibles with *disappearing deductibles!

*Disappearing deductibles: If you have no claims and are still with Progressive after 4 years of coverage your deductibles are then ZERO!

Score!

Thanks Erci for giving me the idea to try Progressive!

I really like the Z1000.
Some of the guys I used to ride with threw off on Kaw.. Said they were not dependable.
Wish I knew the truth about the newer models and the Z1000 in particular.
Yes, I like it.

Every kawi i've owned has been very dependable... Know of a concours 1000 that has 300k on it and runs dandy, current zzr1200 at the house run like a champ with 50k on it... my 98 kx125 was probably the funnest bike i've owned, my versys, though has low miles, hasn't given me an issue yet.

Like stated liter and up bikes are supposedly a bit better, but my 650 runs just dandy, i'll update if i have any issues with it
