Any Ideas?

So I have a blue 07 fz6 and I absolutely love riding it, but its currently completely stock and I want to make some modifications to it. I looked into aftermarket exhausts and it seems like each one has a pro and con to it, and after reading all the reviews I just ended up with a headache, can anyone recommend which one they think is the best? I also wanted to put on a fender eliminator kit, and a new puig dark smoke racing windshield. I thought about led turn signals for the front also, are they hard to put on? Any other suggestions on how to make it look a little more sporty would be great!

there are plenty of Mod ideas on here, Pazzo levers, lower cowl or lower full fairings will make it more sporty looking, any Exhaust will sound more sporty than stock and the "best" will be determined by what you are looking for. Those other mods you listed are definately a good plan as well.

Welcome to the forum! While no one here can say which exhaust is best there are many pics where you can see what they look like. That is where I would start on that. Like Reio said fairings or a belly pan will make it look sportier and the other mods you listed will help also. the fender eliminator is not difficult to install, nor is the windshield. The LED's may be a little more difficult because most people are nervous about wiring. Just ask here and we will be more than glad to help you out!

Most people do the headlight mod.

But let me tell you a story to tell you what the FZ6 is like...

On Sunday I rode with 3000 other bikes in Denmark. I have never seen another FZ6 on the road in Denmark. We were riding in convoy, stop, start, stop, start. Thats the way it is with 3000 bikes.

I stopped and was looking at the guy in front when I heard a VVVVRRROOOOMMMM right alongside of me. I looked over and there was a guy on an FZ6 next to me, the same colour as mine. It sounded like a race bike. It had Devil pipes, full fairing, red and chrome suspension and he was about 24 in full racing gear. We waved and thumbs up to each other for the bikes and off we went.

I ride a standard FZ6 except it has a seat 3cm lower than stock, it has a top box and side boxes. I am 50 and was wearing my gore tex suit and 8 layers of clothes to keep warm and dry.

I think we were both happy with our bikes which were totally different but the same.

You can do as much or as little as you want but don`t ask us what to do. Ask how to do it and you will get lots of different replies. WHAT to do is a personal choice.

It is great fun deciding though. Enjoy it.

Hi Melissa a very warm welcome.

As Steve and Darryl have said there are plenty of mods you can do and pick up from this forum with good advice too.

I have done the duel headlight mod (how to forum by biker_dude43) as i wanted to be more visible to others (safety first :thumbup I have also put on the fe kit tidying up the rear nicely.Next im thinking of putting the Vince leo aftermarket exhausts on.:rockon:

Hi Melissa! Welcome to the forum.

The stock exhaust is really a very nice one, very well made. There are a lot of choices in that department. I went with the Arkapovic because the db killings can be easy pulled out once you remove on simple allen bolt. I leave them in and the bike is pretty quiet.

Just take your time, look at the threads here to get ideas and feel free to ask as many questions as you like. Everyone has bit different take on what they like and what is important to them. People will tell you what they liked and disliked about a mod too. It all depends on what is important to YOU. That's the cool thing about the FZ, you can tour on it all the way to tracking it.

Its really a cool bike, few others are as versitle at the FZ.

Lol...this is a loaded question as there is no such thing as "the best". What some people love and swear by, others will hate and not reccomend. So in the end, choose what you feel is best for you, your bike and your riding style.

Most exhausts are not that hard to install. It took me less than 10 min to fully remove the stock exhaust and it is not that complicated to insatll aftermarket ones. If you know your way around a wrench and a screw driver, then you can do most mods.

There are lots of helpful people here to assist you with installation and any other questions that you may have! Most important thing is to have fun with your mods!!

That was my first followed by the headlights and then I rammed a 16 inch drill bit through my exhaust to get some sound out of it. That last one is questionable, but I like it.

I think I'll start with the windshield and fe kit and I'll definitely put up before and after pics. I am very interested in the headlight mod, but one question... does it just make both lights work on low beam? and then on the high beam go back to just the one light? I've seen a few bikes with halo eyes and think they look pretty interesting... has anyone put them on their bike?

pete: i was leaning towards akrapovic also, how would you describe the sound they make? is it extremely loud or just nice sounding?

Hi the mod makes both lights work on low beam and when switched to high beam both lights stay on but only the right side(sitting on the bike)goes to high.Its because the left only has one element where the right has two :thumbup:

Welcome Melissa - Good luck in your Mod adventures and congrats on the bike, is it your first bike?

Frame sliders are a great first mod and they are CHEAP insurance.

The headlight mod works like this: for low beams both bulbs are lit, for high beams the low filament goes out on the right side lamp and the high filament is lit. It is an easy mod and it looks much better than one low beam at all times imo.
Not sure I know what you mean when you say "Halo Eyes" - is that another name for the high intensity bulbs? If that is the case, I do not have them, but I plan to look into it soon. Seems there are more than a few threads here on them.

Ok, thanks for the info on the headlight mod, i definitely think i'm gonna do that one. Here's a pic I found online with a "halo eye" on one of the headlights on an fz6. Looks pretty good I think, I just wonder if it would effect visibility in a negative way, hopefully not.

those do look good, melissa. From what I hear and have read you will either have to hack up your headlights or send them off to have the company hack them up and that sounds rather pricey for "bling". But as we all said its your bike and if that is what you want doooooooo it! then show us pics!

Nope and nope. oznium.com has "Angel Eye" kits for cheap ($45.00+) and you can do this mod yourself. You do have to take the entire headlight uint off the bike and then put it in your oven to remelt the glue that holds the lens unit on. Then you can seperate the entire lens cover from the housing uint and install the Angel Eyes.

Some guy did it over on SBN.

yeah, cooking my whole headlight piece does sound like some work but I might end up trying it, and I'll definitely put up pics. I found some frame sliders online for $19.90 plus 8 for shipping. but they had two kinds one thats 3.5 inches and one thats 4. does the extra half inch make a difference? actually the longer ones were two bucks cheaper...

They can be quiet or LOUD, it depends on what you like, and you can switch back and forth. They are CE certified to meet European sound requirements, has a little card that says so.

I get complements on them all the time, for both the sound and the looks, except from HavBlue...

Even with the db killers in they have a deeper sound than stock. I've got a UTube clip on the thread so you can hear the difference of with db and without.

What you have planned so far sounds great. That is pretty much the route I went.

Mods Done so far:
1) Puig Windscreen

4) Galfer Brake Lines - F&R
5) Pazzo Levers- shorties
6) Race Tech Fork Springs, 15 wt oil
