Always walk the parking lot before practice

Got off work today, it was a hard day. Decided to ride to Mammoth Cave and enjoy the scenery. Went fairly chill the whole way, and stopped at the cave to turn around. Huge empty parking lot, so I thought well might as well not waste hot tires and do some tight figure eights. Went gently and then worked the bike over further and further. Wellllll you know how puddles collect up the little bits of asphalt that come loose, and make perfect gray areas of just loose silt and rocks? Yeah one of those. First time ever losing the rear turning (with it actually in contact with the ground). It stepped out very far and made a crazy noise. I goosed it for to make the bike stand up, it did and then circled back around to see what caused it. In the silt a perfect print of the avon storm tread then a huge slip area.

Moral of the story, get off the bike, walk the area you are going to play in to make sure nothing is there to crash the bike. The tire track did look cool as hell though.

What no picture of the cool as hell tire track???? Point taken on this one, I am slightly paranoid about little things in parking lots taking me down hard, I do a through check of any parking lot. I have this mental image that I am going to have a bad dump doing something good like practice in an open parking lot. Happy to hear it worked out for you, good instinct on grabbing more throttle to stand her up. Guess practice worked. :rockon:

I have had to show everyone at work the video filmed from the back of Rons FZ1. The look on their faces is priceless. Its going to be a blast hanging with everyone and meeting new people too.

Good looks man, good to hear you saved it. Beyond just knowing your parking lots, you should know your roads period, otherwise drive like a granny til you do.

Oh yeah, its not one of my normal practice spots, it is usually full of cars and tourists.

Bought a new trailer this week and should have at least one more trackday behind me by the time I arrive on that wednesday in Deals Gap. Looking forward to twisting through the whole area :rockon:
