On the way to work today on the 5 freeway at the East LA 4 level I got cut off hard. I quickly swerved and on the brakes and horn. I was pissed as I watched the driver drive off swerving between interchange traffic I stupidly followed. Came up along side and in my best sign language let them know my feelings about the situation. I then sped off really pissed going way to fast.
As I merged with the 10 freeway while on the 5 another driver fairly well ahead decided to get in my lane. Again I was going to fast driven by anger. As I quickly headed to the rear bumper of the car in front of me I got on the binders and clutch. I felt the rear end starting to drift as I got hard on the front brake. Off the rear brake and more front brake but still drifting with the rear tire as I let off that brake. I saw a way out to the right if needed but luckly I got her slowed down and didn't kiss the bumper. Funny thing is I didn't panic I just planned and adjusted. It felt like slow motion. I really think that all my years of dirt biking helped me here. Drifting the back wheel on a dirt bike happens every turn and you use it as a tool to steer.
What I learned today is to not let my emotions dictate the way I ride. I let my anger dictate my riding today not my brain. I was lucky I didn't go down. Lesson learned thankfully not the hard way.
