'88 FZ600-HOW CAN I INCREASE AIR INTAKE? airbox mod or different filter config,

I would like to know if and how i can mod my airbox to accomodate better air intake, alternatively i was considdering putting individual filters on each carb and removing the air box alltogether.
What would be the best coarse of action?

This is like the airbox mod argument that always goes on here, some people like cutting it up for more intake noise, some people figure if the engineers put it there, its there for a reason. I've never seen anyone do a dyno between the two, but someone did a dyno between stock and no lid at all, with no lid getting a couple extra ponies. I've been waiting to see someone do individual filters.

I'm no expert on carbs, but if you do anything drastic you might have to change the jets.

On my last carb bike, an '81 GS1100EX, I put on individual K&N pods thinking it would make it runs faster. Well not too much, it kinda ran like crap, but I stuck with it. Keep in mind this was 20 years ago, no dynos, jet kits, nothing. All we had was a "plug check". Keepin mind that from '80 to about '83 that bike was the "Busa of the day, and with my filters I was running with 750's. Pride can be a problem at times...

One of the problems I had was in cross winds. The bike leaned out so much if hardly ran. After struggling with fueling for a year+ I put the stock air box back on and it ran like a champ! Man did I kick myself in the butt for wasting so much time with a poor running bike.

The FZ600 motor really runs with nice with hi-comp pistons and high lift cams, but I don't think filters will help you.

This would be a better place to ask mate. Your Fazer is quite a bit different to our FZ6's. Also, as you have carbs, they can easily be negatively affected by airflow changes! K&N-style filters will offer the best airflow, but you will probably need to rejet the carbs.

Yeh i'm with Hellgate on this, i heard the same you will need to change the jets...

Keep in mind that if you don't have direct lift carbs, meaning they work off of vacuum, you will have a hell of a time getting the flat spots worked out. I've run into this problem on the older Honda CB series of bikes.
