Hi All,
Joined this (very informative forum) shortly after I bought my 2008 FZ6 last month...now have a little over 1800 miles and a desire for a bit more wind protection when I'm on the highway (at 70+ MPH). Long story short, I've tried a Calsci (SP?) screen but couldn't get it to fit. Every "after market mod" I've seen for the FZ6 appears to be for the "2007 - "

So, who here:
a) has a 2008 FZ6
b) "mod'd" their bike with a "touring" wind screen
c) what brand and where was it purchased (from?!)
d) did you have to do anything "special" to get it
to fit or did it just "plop in" like the screen that came
with the bike???!!

e) added handlebar "risers" (the brake line is too short
to allow me to install the set I purchased  )

Thanks in advance...

PMS (yes, my REAL initials - talk to my parents :D )
p.s. (also my initials ) - GREAT site!!! PS (see??!! LOL)

FZ6inNH has an 08 with a Puig racing screen and Hellgate has done quite a bit of handle bar work.

And FYI the 07 and 08 are identical bikes other than colors...

good luck with your mods!!!

welcome to the site,,,as the other fellow members wrote , everything that fits to 07 will fit 08 since they are identical...i have an 07 ,i was complaining about wind until i installed my puig racing screen...i am very happy now,i think it looks good too...you need nothing special to install,,,unscrew 6 screws replace windshield, screw the screws back...less than 3 minutes...
no idea about bar risers

every question you have is most likely answered couple of times here so you can get huge amounts of ideas and facts by searching your questions first...

Dude, get the Puig racing screen. It is like night and day the difference that it makes as far as wind protection. I wish I had done it sooner.

The 2007 one will fit your '08. You unscrew the screws and screw in the new one - it's that easy.

I just got my risers and haven't tried to install them yet. FYI if your risers don't fit, did you clip every zip tie on the cables on the fork? I've heard with the larger size risers/barbacks you might have to adjust the slack and re-zip tie it.

I'd also recommend the FIAAM Freeway blaster horn. Don't worry, it's not nearly as loud as the Stebel - more like a car's horn, but MUCH louder than stock. Bolts right in, but I personally used part of the factory bracket to mount it.

First off, thanks to all who responded; I appreciate the feedback...now, to respond to everyone in one breath/post

(DEEP BREATH in....and...):

@reiobard: Yeah...I've been silently lurking here over the past month or so and have seen fz6innh's posts.

@cloned: well, I'm a "doubting Thomas" :D and the screen I rec'd DEFINITELY did not fit the '08 (easily); it was advertised as fitting "2007 - "

@tolgatt: Thanks :) As I said to "cloned", I'm a "doubting Thomas" :-D and hadn't seen anyone post anything about 2008 FZ6 and the Calsci windscreen and how the installation went (the instructions that came with it were VERY cryptic, short and "vague").

@koolfz6: Details (pm me??!) please on how the installation goes, once you get the screen and put on, including if you had to "press fit"/push the edges in/distort the windscreen to get the screws inserted (please!)...I'm leaning toward the Puig touring but don't want to spend any more $$$ before I know for sure. BTW, as I discovered, I think you'll find that the front brake line needs to be extended before you'll be able to even MOVE the handle bars out of the way to insert the extenders/risers (yes, I KNOW I'd removed all the tie wraps/cable ties)...but then, I'm a computer "specialist", not a "mechanical engineer" (LOL) :D

@marke14: See above :) "Blaster horn", h#$l, I'm thinking of hooking up a compressor system then attaching a truck air horn to blast those stupid "cagers" into reality (dumb f##$s - don't get me going  )

No matter, thanks to all who have wasted their bandwidth reading my drivel :) I'll work something out.

Stay safe and vigilant!!

Hey fizz_off, welcome!

I've got an '06, so I can't speak about the windscreen problem you're having, but I do have the Motech 1" up and back risers. It appears that it's hit or miss with whether your lines will be long enough to add these particular risers. I got lucky, I guess, since mine were plenty long enough. Others, though, have had to replace their lines with longer ones or go with the shorter risers instead.

I was going to say cut the zip ties, but someone already beat me to it. I will say, though, that when I first went to add the risers, I found that it was REALLY hard to get the handlebars over the top of them to fit into the slot on the risers. I just took a deep breath, prayed that I wouldn't pull any lines loose, and gave it a bit of a soft tug. Up and over it went. If I remember correctly, I also had to rotate the handlebars nearly upside down in order to get them over the risers. You may try that.

Put the puig smoke racing screen on a month or so ago and i cant see how i rode without it, much better wind/bug protection, also installed FE, new rear signals, took the cat off and had the catalyst removed and then welded back at a muffler shop, also installed extended sliders that have already proved their worth when my brilliant friend dumped it over in the garage, ALL parts of the bike were well off the ground, absolutely no damage to anything except minor scratch on the left slider.

removing the catalyst somehow dropped coolant temp about 10 degrees and airbox temp 5-7 degrees...minimal i know but just thought i would share...maybe a very slight change in exhaust sound level but minor if anything.

you may want to look into the bigger puig screen if your main concern is wind protection and you plan on installing risers...i am 6'2'' and depending on speed i will get the blast at about the top 25% of my shield on my helmet...depending on your height and the height of the risers, they may completely bring your out of the protection of the screen...

if you do decide to go with the bigger puig screen and you think it is too big, maybe we could trade because i think i would like a bigger one but just got this one...either way PM me with any questions...

have fun
