2005/2008 fork legs compatibility

Hi there!
I had a crash recently and my left fork leg got bended. I've got to money no spare right now and I think you are all familiar with yamaha genuine parts prices. I've found a guy selling fork legs set from 2005 FZ6 for a good price. The question is - will they fit on my 2008? They look a bit differently. Thanks!

I don't believe there is a difference in any of the model years. Do a google search yamaha oem parts should find your answer there.

the short answer is yes they will fit BUT you have to change the calipers too to 05/06 spec (the two piston sliding jobbies) or maybe fabricate brackets to fit your calipers (don t know if its worthed tho), you may have to drill the 08 fender to match with the 05/06 fender mount points as they had different fenders.

Sounds like a good opportunity to swap to R6 parts to me (adjustable compression, rebound and sag). . . . Its not worth down grading your calipers to older parts. . .

FinalImpact: Yeah, I'm OK. I was moving slower than a walking speed and supposed to give way, but I didn't notice a car coming. Nothing happened to me, but unfortunately he hit the brake disc and left fork leg. I already bought new handlebar and left brake disc so I can at least commute to school.

I have to steer a bit right to go straight and the bike feels very unstable when through a bump etc., possibly because the top bearing jumped out. Left inner tube is obviously bended.

From what I see, I have these options:
1, get a used 07-09 fork legs set - probably impossible in the UK
2, get a used 03-04 R6 fork legs set - probably impossible as well
3, try to repair the existing set
4, do not do anything - wait 3/4 months, gather some money and go for option 1/2

What about option 3?

Those look pretty good. You need an axle to go with them and shim kit and you'd be set. Read up on the R6 fork swap threads. I'd say read mine but I haven't done it yet. Just putting fresh oil and seals in them for the install coming up and yes, ha - waiting for an axle!

As for bending either of the bottom or top triple clamps, usually a bike would be destroyed before they ever give way. You hinted at the top bearing coming out. Once again, not likely. It would take a MAJOR accident to damage those parts. That's not to say the bearing won't go bad and get rough but not likely from just laying it down on the bars.
