1st Gear Launch..how to?

Okay...my motorcycle riding experience consisted of a 2003 Honda Shadow 600, my starter bike. Now I have this amazing machine a 2007 FZ6. With the Shadow I could just dump the clutch and wouldn't have to worry about wheelies or losing control from a standstill. Now with the FZ6 I can tell I may do that...I get the front wheel up going to 2nd gear but I need to know how to safely quick launch from 1st.

Any suggestions?

I have never lost traction on launch.
I have done a monster power wheelie, racked myself, dropped it back down and racked myself again.

That was like 9 or 10,000 rpm and letting the clutch out to fast.

You can slip the clutch but its not good for it. Hang your legs back to counter weight against the front.

The books I have read say wide freaking open and slip the clutch. I am not very good at it, and dont want to destroy my clutch.

i never stall anymore. fz6 clutch was tricky to learn. every bike ive ridden other than it in the past 3-4 months (1 bike the drz400) seemed like butter compared to the fz6.

for a quick take off without doing a wheelie you pretty much have to slip the clutch.

Can you explain to me what you mean by "slip the clutch"? I am not familiar with that.

Gradually release it while you are giving throttle. That is worst for the clutch because it is literally "slipping". Completely open or completely closed is best for the clutch.
