It should run fine without insulation.

My buddy and I raced one in Phoenix in the summer with no vapor lock.

Racing uses fuel. Idling does not. Stagnet fuel if heated expands.
Maybe its as simple as routing the oem line differently? Off hand I'd also guess that steel and glass filters absorb more heat and could be adding to the issue. Any fuel path that offers restriction can aerate fuel under low pressure; add heat and you get vapor lock.

Does it have methonal fuel? All stupid things that add up.

Vapor Lock

What a great name for a terrible enemy.

I'll have to recheck the float bowls and their lines, new fuel line and re route it.

Thanks!

Thought more about heat. How to reduce it. Why is this getting so hot?

A few things:

- use lowest octane gas possible instead of premium
- re- route the fuel line (as suggested)
- AND (you'll love this one) Don't use high temp spark plugs ! Switched these out with low temp.

This last one was likely the major contributor to all the Vapor lock.

So now guess what?

It runs GREAT!

I took the bike around for about 85km tonight. 0 problems. No stalls. Held the idle fine.

This may be it.

In 122 degree heat vapor lock can happen.

I'm gutted you're selling this. I'm gonna miss it! Love the framed shim. That needs to go on the wall in an oil spattered man cave, with a bar in it!

Well... Just my two cents!

You saved an awesome motorcycle from a lousy owner, you gave her a new life and I'm sure she loves you for that.

At least enjoy her a few months, I'm sure she will be awesome with all that care you give to her. Just give her a try to make some love appear.
