I think that statement was tongue-in-cheek....

Right now we're busy laughing at our loony-tune state senator Chris Buttars. Last year his outburst was "This bill is an UGLY baby! This bill is a BLACK baby!" This year, he's compared gays with militant Islamics and called them the biggest enemy of the U.S. (he's still euphoric about the mormon-financed defeat of California's Proposition h8...)

I guess it's expected that there are still old men out there so racist and homophobic; it's not so expected that the majority of Utards continue to re-elect them...

Now, when a person defends the statement of another, I have no problem with that. Where the potential for conflict lies, is in the definition of a "Utard". What exactly is a "Utard"? I know that (the elected fellow) has said some stupid things, but you both just highlighted what I've been proving to my soc. prof's all semester long... Groups aren't known by their average or their median, but the notable extremes which make good media. If he just meant to poke fun at one guy, that's cool and no harm/no foul. But, when somebody attacks a personal set of beliefs which are sacred to by masses of people that is uncalled for, and reprehensible. One of the reasons I love this forum so much is the neutrality or safety which we've come to expect. So, if he was having a laugh at tally what's his face, cool. That kind of ignorance is absurd, but so was soviet if he wasn't just talking about the individual. I whole heartedly apologize to soviet for the bird if he was poking fun at the individual.

As a brit I'm a little confused. What's wrong with california?? Surely it's the land of sun, wealth, beaches, beautiful people etc. I know there are downsides - LA gangs, Toyota Prius's, plastic surgery - but an outsiders view is that Califronia is a pretty cool place

California is a failed socialist experiment that is now a bankrupt state sucking up our taxpayer dollars faster than any other to support it's unsustainable entitlement programs. It is $42B in debt and asking for us to pay. It is the largest contributor to the global financial crisis, along with Freddie and Fannie which are the largest contributors to the democratic party. Obama received more funds from those companies than any other politician since he took office. Pelosi is a San Fransisco Socialist that is authoring the legislation that Obama is rubber stamping to take our money to expand these unsustainable social programs nationwide, then once they are in place they will tax us into poverty. While the poor may be getting $13 a week, we will all be taxed on energy (driving up fuel, heating costs, and electricity which effectively drives up the prices of all consumer goods and services), the mileage on our cars, even soft drinks, liquor, fatty foods, basically they intend to use taxes as a weapon to control human behavior and limit our personal freedoms. Our citizens will be reliant on our government, which will hold all of the power rather than the other way around, as our founding fathers intended.

It costs so damn much to live there. That's one reason. And I think it's because the government takes so damn much of your money there.
