saddle bags

My saddle bags are made from a heavy duty canvas material. I'm worried that they may scratch the (blue) plastic "frame side covers" that are on the side of the seat. I know that some bags have another material like neoprene on the side that faces the bike. Mine doesn't. Any mods out there...

I just bought some Gearsack Sports Panniers from a coworker. I think I got a good deal. They're made of water resistant material. The inside liner is kinda rubbery. They have a 44 Liter Capacity. I have some pics that show how I mounted them. They seem pretty secure. What do you all think...

So I just got off the phone with nate at newenough.com and he said not to run saddle bags or a tail bag on the fz6. He has a pile of bags that have been burnt by the undertail exhaust due to how they mount. He also said some of the bags were fine but the clothes inside started on fire from heat...
