    Fubar Clutch Bearing

Using Mobile 1 Motocycle oil. 20-50 just went in for summer. The shiny goop was lining the clutch basket, nut and pressure plate, it looks like it mostly stayed in there as the oil didn't have any metal in it when I dumped it. I'm sure its going to be great from here on out.

    Fubar Clutch Bearing

Ha! $10 from a local bearing shop A new EBC SRK Clutch, 3 quarts of oil and a filter and things are A-ok. That EBC clutch is really nice, no more chattering, no more super small friction zone... Life is good. I'm looking forward to the weekend :-)

    Fubar Clutch Bearing

20-30$ for a bearing. Not a big deal, as long as there isn't any damage from the shiny metal paste. The clutch plates and steels themselves looked ok, the metal looked confined to the center on the basket. I'll still be changing the oil and filter but beyond that, there isn't much I can do...

    Fubar Clutch Bearing

If you look closely you can see scarring on the bearing cages and metal paste. Also the center of the bearing wobbles and slides. It is not normal.

    Fubar Clutch Bearing

I have been having trouble with the clutch on this 06 FZ6 since I got it. Growing freeplay, a bearing whine (in hindsight) and eventually it just stopped disengaging. I assumed it was a warped clutch steel and ordered a new EBC SRK kit, but when I got in there, this is what I found...

changed oil and now sticky shifter drum?

Yea! Sorry, I hadn't posted. After some more googling. I went through and degreased and re lubricated the pivot points and it's shifting great now. Much better than just lubrication alone. Thanks for checking back!

changed oil and now sticky shifter drum?

I've lubed all the points including the main pivot point to no avail. I flipped the peg mounting washers. No change. I have not disassembled anything to clean it, which is my next step.

changed oil and now sticky shifter drum?

I did a quick inspection, nothing seems wrong, no loose bolts, no frame interactions etc.. I'll have to to a more thorough look when I get a chance. BUT I WANT TO RIDE this weekend...

changed oil and now sticky shifter drum?

I doubt its hitting the frame now, when it wasn't a week ago... but I'll be inspecting its motion again tonight. Thanks for the tips on the spring!

changed oil and now sticky shifter drum?

It happens shifting up and down. Down is more prevalent actually, since I first noticed it when I was stalling at lights thinking I was in 1st but instead I was in 2nd.

changed oil and now sticky shifter drum?

It seems to get worse as it warms up, and not be a problem at all with thicker oil, but correlation is not causation. I also had to adjust the engine guards when I did the oil change and its possible moved something into an interference position...

changed oil and now sticky shifter drum?

In searching the forum, I found lots of references to sticky shift drums / shift return springs failing? I'll definitely try lubricating the shift linkage pivots before digging into anything!

changed oil and now sticky shifter drum?

Hey all, I recently changed my oil from Yamaha full synthetic 20-50 to Mobile1 10-40. Since the change I've been having the the typical sticky shifter drum symptom. I can shift one gear at a time but I have to tap the lever back into position before I can shift again. Shifting has become...

    Valve tap opinions

Thanks for all the replies! Its enough for me to hear that I shouldn't worry about it. I have been planning on a switch to lower viscosity oil... best laid plans and all that. I had another project in the works that I just sold so I should have time now. Thanks!

    Valve tap opinions

To clarify, it's a quiet tick, audible over the engine, but not a knocking. And I'm only assuming it's a valve thing based on its speed and general area.

    Valve tap opinions

I've got a 2007 with ~12K on it. For the last thousand miles its had a valve tap. Its not there when the bike is cold and it comes on as it warms up. It it only noticeable though certain RPM ranges, like between 3-5K then gone and comes back around 7k. I bought the bike with about 10K about...

What is the best mileage you have gotten?

My first few tanks were about 50-55, but since I started commuting in city traffic it's gone WAY down to 28 or so. Sad :(

Tested out my new Engine Guards

I agree, I cycle to work regularly. Its how we do it in Portland and I grab at the front brake all the time... ARGH!! THE FRONT BRANK IS NOT A FRIEND AT LOW SPEED!!!

Tested out my new Engine Guards

For you pictofiles... I'm really impressed with how the E46 cases held up to the drop, though it was low speed, it was only cosmetic damage.
