Frame Sliders

Hey all. This will be the first mod to my new baby,and after experiencing a crash first hand on my previous bike, I know sliders are a god send. Basic questions I got are as follows:

Are the Yamaha sliders any good for the price? (around $250 canadian)
Any other brand recommended and why?

I would prefer to not have to drill any holes, and am looking for a set that could still be used with a full fairing if I decide to get one later on. Thanks a bunch!

None of the sliders for the FZ6 will require drilling any hard plastic parts. I use Puig sliders. Many people in the forum love their motovation sliders and uncaged I think (did I spell those right?)

Also check out the R&G sliders. They have great reputation but I am not sure if they make any for the FZ6. Hope this helps

I don't know anything about the other brands firsthand but I love my Motovation sliders. I used mine a couple of weeks ago and they worked exactly as expected.

Here is an after pic. My bike didn't slide very far; maybe 20 to 25 feet, but the slider didn't lose much material. It would have held up to a much longer slide.

+1 for the motivation sliders. 90 usd is a good price and it took about 10 min to install.

Here's a picture of what my bike looked like after I low slided at the track in May of course without frame sliders. Live and learn. But you guys that don't have frame sliders don't have to. Take it from me, make your next mod some frame sliders.

i got my T-rex sliders on Ebay for 25 dollars shipped. they are made of UHMW plastic. came with bolts. shipped to my door in 3 days. real good vendor.

No, swingarm and fork are untouched but I can't understand how. I am thinking of putting sliders on both.

I don't think that there's any place to mount sliders on the swing arm. Correct me if I'm wrong. BTW, here's a shot of a T-rex slider after a slow-speed slide. I imagine that if it had been a high-speed slide it would've worn down pretty fast? Do some sliders wear more slowly than others? Is this where paying $80 instead of $200 or $100 makes a difference?

I have the T-Rex sliders and just put them to the test. After a 20' slide mine wore down to the allen head bolt but still kept the frame and motor clean. From the pics I would say that the Motivation sliders appear to hold up better.

Ok, so I'm cheap. After reading this and some of the other posts on frame sliders, I'm starting to doubt a recent purchase of carbon frame sliders off of eBay, which was under $20. Below is a pic of what I got. They should be here this week. Hopefully. Should I go ahead and man up and get a more expensive set? Suggestions?

There's no place for sliders on the swing arm of my '04, but I read somewhere that 2006- has an added-on slot or threaded section near the axle nut on the bottom of the swing arm that would work for sliders. Can anyone confirm?

I'm not a frame slider or motorcycle crash expert so I'm not an authority on this, but here is what I've learned about Motovation:

Motovation makes axle sliders, fork sliders, and frame sliders.

They have put significant effort into material selection. According to this article, they have chosen high molecular density nylon because it does wear down more slowly than delrin.

I know a lot of folks use uncaged or t-rex but I know nothing about those. What are these brands made of?

just ordered a set of shogun no cut frame sliders for my 07....hopefully won't have to put them to the test but a guy i work with laid his r1 down at 85 with shogun sliders and the only damage was to some of his paint when his bike slid off the road onto the shoulder....so they get an A in my book but i think it just comes down to personal preference and mostly lets face it getting lucky with how the bike goes down, but either way make sure you've got somethin on there. I have seen pictures of 90 mph low sides that look like almost nothing with sliders and my good friend just laid down his brand new (im talkin two weeks old) cbr600rr without sliders at about 45 and we had to replace the whole left side of his bike....turn signal, clutch handle, clutch perch, foot shifter, lower fairing, bar-ends....pretty much the works. though it was fun taking a big steel cutter to a $10,000 bike :sinister::thumbup:
