Hello all, new to the forums but been a lurker for quite a while now. I'm going to be purchasing my FZ6 here soon, and one thing that's been on my mind is what is the difference between the standard 2008 FZ6 and what I've been noticing as an S2? I've seen some of the differences in colors (I'm partial to the silver), and was curious if there was a difference, other than paint, in the actual bike. Any suggestions? Thanks!

California right now, but will be getting the bike in CO (where I'm from). A search on previous postings I might have done would have yielded that information.

A few answers? Try 500, already did it with the search line "S2 difference". As I have no clue what any differences are in the S2 versions, it's kind of hard to come up with a proper search string to narrow the results from 500 threads and countless responses, to a few that would have the answer. But hey, thanks for the tip! :D

the FZ6 comes in 2 versions : naked and faired

1) the naked one is called FZ6 (sometimes people will write FZ6N, but that's not the official name)
2) the faired one is called FZ6 Fazer (so the term "Fazer" applies to the fairings)

The 2007 model is very different from the previous models. Here's what changed (these apply for the 2008 models as well obviously):

* Optimized fuel injection (FI) system mapping.
* Redesigned fairing and windscreen.
* New instrument cluster with analog tachometer and digital speedometer (similar to the FZ1).
* New four-piston monoblock brake calipers for the front brake.
* Alumite-finished front forks with revised damping.
* A 3-way catalytic converter.
* A new seat design.
* A new rear swingarm.
* New passenger pegs.

The term "S2" is new with the 2007 models, it applies to all 98hp versions.

As from 2007 there are 4 versions:

1) 2007 FZ6 S2 (naked, 98hp)
2) 2007 FZ6 S2 Fazer (faired, 98hp)

These two models are the ones with all the changes that I described above.

The next two models are also "new" from 2007, BUT : they are just 2006 models with a detuned engine. So basiscally these are 2006 FZ6's with a 78hp eingine :

3) 2007 FZ6 (naked 78hp, which is basically a detuned 2006 FZ6)
4) 2007 FZ6 Fazer (faired, 78hp, which is a detuned 2006 FZ6 Fazer)

I bought a 2007 S2 Fazer, because the changes from the 2006 model were very important to me (especially the improved FI mapping, new seat, new swingarm new instrument cluster). The 78hp models have none of that.

i thought the fazer designation was only for europe?

in north america i know when they say FZ6S it is the faired one always. mine says FZ6S on the registration for it as well as everywhere else i could find, and it is faired from the factory...

There is only 1 FZ6 available in the states, the FZ6. It's the full HP version and comes with a fairing. EDIT - there is a CA version with more restrictive emissions standards but the difference is probably negligible.

Why do people get so pissy when someone mentions the search function? Not everyone knows about the search function and it's not our fault you don't know how to use a search engine very well. :D A simple "thanks for welcoming me, thanks for pointing out that where I live makes a difference, and I tried to search but didn't come up with shyt" would have sufficed.

Like dako81 said, welcome to the forum and I hope you find a great bike!

Oh I'm not pissy. Just explaining what I did. If it came across that way, please excuse the tone. Trust me, if it was pissy, I wouldn't have thanked him for the tip. :)

Welcome to the site man. We get lots of people that do get upset about the search function. Its all good. We have a great bunch of people here. Glad your here.

Oh come on...you responded by telling him he could have searched for where you live...lol :D It's all good...I'll take your word for it. ;)

naw, was just trying to point out that if he used the search tool all that often, then he would have known. I actually host several different websites, and fix comps (hardware/software) for extra cash when I can, so yeah, I know the value of using a search string. Google is my friend, lol.

Thanks for the welcome all. Going to be at the Laguna Seca race this weekend, so maybe I'll see y'all out there :)
