Dancing Cornstarch

Looks like a baking sheet on top of a mid range speaker to me...pretty cool none the less...what makes someone even want to try that.

Here's the scientific version-

That's what called a non-Newtonian liquid. You can make some with just corn starch and water (play with the ratio to find the right mixture). When a lot of kinetic energy is applied, it acts like a solid. If you don't apply enough kinetic energy or none at all, it stays a liquid. You could actually fill a pool with the stuff and run across it, but as soon as you slow down you'll be able to swim in it (there's a video on youtube of this, it's a Japanese game show or something). For practicality, you can make a bowl of it, then squeeze it in your hand constantly, it will be like a ball of dough, when you stop applying pressure it will turn back into a liquid and run between your fingers.

Cool stuff.

Is that the opposite of a thixotropic substance, like ketchup? When a lot of kinetic energy is applied, it acts like a liquid (shake the bottle to get the ketchup to pour); apply none, and it stays in the bottle ("Anticipation...") :D

Wish I could tell ya, but I'm no expert. I just remember reading about it and making some of my own to play with. :D
