Realistic Dream Bike Garage Top 5

Top 5 picks please

Conditions are:

1) I say realistic because I'm trying to make this a list of bikes YOU will ACTUALLY buy in YOUR lifetime. Assume you are allowed to and finances allow it as well over however many years it takes you will be keeping each bike for your entire life as well. So price is also a factor. $100,000 motorcycles are allowed if you would actually buy one personally with your salary. If it is slightly out of your price range go for it....remember this is a semi-dream garage

2) You briefly explain why you would pick the bikes you picked. You dont have to do this obviously but it would make for some good reads.

3) Bikes can have personal appeal to you historically (doesnt have to be current generation motorcycles) or as functional machines, or aesthetic appeal, mechanical, whatever....again whatever makes you happy.

4) You ride each bike for at least 3,000km/year with year round 12 months good weather.

5) Post pics if you can, if not no biggie

I'll start

1) Honda VFR800 Interceptor

-it is the perfect bike for so many reasons. I would be able to use this as my primary machine for the next 5-7 years of my life while i build my finances to buy selections 3-4-5 on this list. It is sporty, comfy, fit for a tall rider, everything is spot on with this machine...looks, everything.



2) Suzuki DRZ400

-cheap, allows me freedom to go where i want to and i have wanted to get dirty for a long long time. get lost in the wilderness and enjoy nature. perfect. good price, best offroad performance of the 400cc dual sports, and some personal attachment to the machine. very well built mechanically as well.



3) Triumph Sprint ST

-The super-interceptor. everything the interceptor is and then some. bigger, more comfy. it would be my long distance tourer. And I do plan on doing some lengthy highway trips in my 30's. might think about an fjr1300/concourse but he triumph is smaller than these bohemoths while still being long range capable. torquey in line triple...lightweight compared to the 1300cc machines. the triumph is my long-term highway machine.




4) Ducati 848

-i dont think i need to explain this one. its the 848. sex on 2 wheels.
-




5) a cruiser of some type. not sure which as I havent looked into cruisers all that carefully.
-I'll be in my 40's and i will have developed an urge to get a cruiser by this point. even now i would enjoy one, but other bikes i want first before a cruiser.

Hmmm.....today my choices would be:

(1) Honda VFR - 5th generation (2000 - the "yellow" year). I almost got one of these instead of an FZ6. IMO Honda overdid it by going with a V-Tec in the current generation. This is the last of the 'unspoiled' VFRs. I love Hondas and this thing is very cool. The V-4 has the best sound from a motorcycle I've ever heard. Rumor has it the 2009 model might be a V-5.....

(2)Triumph Scrambler - there's just something about this bike that appeals to me. I don't know what it is. Maybe the high pipes and the sense of history. I also want to own a Triumph at some point. I'd definately rig this one up for some light off-road duty. Oh yeah, and I want the green one. It's sweet.

(3) BMW R1200GS Adventure - Totally impractical for my needs present or future. Just too much $$$. I want a boxer at some point in my life and since this is a semi-dream list, why not go all out. I just hope I get one with a final drive that works!

(4) FJR - I bought the FZ6 for light touring, but having a full-blown sport tourer would be nice too. A Kawa C-14 or Triumph Sprint would be fine too.

(5) Moto Guzzi Breva 1200 Sport. Gotta have at least one Italian bike in my top 5. I love Ducati's, but why not something really unique.

I'm surprised I didn't stick a cruiser on my list anywhere. I guess I'm just too sick of cruisers for a while (sold mine last week).

1. 'Busa Turbo - only bike that will flatten your eyeballs out
2. R1 Streetfighter - FZ6 is good fun, but I really like torque on the street
3. R6 - 17K RPM - I need one of those for track day fun
4. Aprilla Mille - The Italian's really do build 'em different
5. FJR - Need a ride that crosses time zones in comfort

Big suprise for me - A VFR didn't make the list - maybe a V5 will change that.

Ok, i already have 2 of my Dream bikes.

1. My 2006 Orange & Black Yamaha FZ6N
2. My 1982 Blue Ducati 500 Pantah (have had this bike for 15 years)

The other 3 on my realistic wish list are, in order of desirability.

3. Honda CBR1100XX (AKA Blackbird)...affordable second hand mile muncher, would be great for those Roads to the MOTO GP and back (2000km round trip).

4. 1973 Orange Ducati 450 single...Beautiful looking Bike...from back when bikes were simple!

5. Yamaha FZ1N....same great look, better brakes, more power.

Am actually looking at Blackbird's right now....if i can find a good one under $8000 Australian...i will seriously consider buying one.

Have included a photo of 3 of these bikes, my Ducati 500 pantah, the Ducati 450 single & the Blackbird.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

Ok, I'm in...

1. My current bike as a commuter - but with all the mods done. I'm getting close...

2. A new TM 144 2-stroke for enduro racing. It's a hand-made Italian racing machine and they are fast as fook. I like TMs because there aren't too many of them around and they surprise everyone who rides them. I have an 11 year old TM 125 at the moment and everyone who rides it loves it.

3. A Ducati Hypermotard just for fun. These bikes are mental. Plus they look fab.

4. An R6 kitted out for the track for fun.

5. BMW R1200RT for touring. Big, fat, comfortable, BMW. Nuff said.

Awsome thread!...I love looking at bikes...especially since there are so many to choose from! I like that folks have been posting pics with there responses, it makes it easy to understand what bike they are talking about.

BTW...haven't seen one yet that I wouldn't want to ride!!
