iPhone Mount

Okay the new iPhone is coming out (July 11) and it looks like a few companies, TomTom and Garmin, will be making GPS software for it. So I want to be able to mount my iPhone on my bike somehow and a nice sturdy mount is on the top of my list. I don't mind spending money on a mount as long as the phone is secure and looks good I will buy it.

Any ideas on a mount I can find online? Any help will be appreciated. :Sport:

well the phone is not waterproof and unless you are very young with GREAT vision you will not be reading it while on the bike so... put the phone in you pocket and buy a Gamin ZUMO 550 == they work great and you can read it and operate with gloves on

Why cant I read it...the iPhone has the same size screen and higher resolution than the zumo and I can read the display in full sunlight with my sunglasses on

FONT SIZE .... the IPHONE has smaller text size ( I know you can stretch it -- I have one)

at 70MPH you will have some difficultywith the I PHONE that is not there with the ZUMO

that is just my observation .... I own both...

you can buy either ......or...... none... no worries to me

you can use them in tandem with the bluetooth function they interface nicely... right ANT mb (he owns & uses both as well)

if you want to use the iphone GPS while stopped ---- that would work well

but on the GO .....ZUMO has it in my book

well once i get the phone i'll let everyone know for sure since we are both speculating...and the font size on the iPhone will have to be large if GArmin and TomTom make somftware for the iPhone...would be silly to make small fonts for GPS on iPhone...don't u think?

no the phone is not designed to be read while riding a motorcyle the Zumo is....

and I am not specualating as I have both units ...and the current phone has the map software and the font is small....

Well since the iPhone and software is not out my question is HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT?

Yes and The TomTom and Garmin Software are not out and the phone itself is not even on sale!

So where did you get the map software? ITS NOT OUT YET!!! so how do you know the font is too small?

Here is the prototype software and in this pic the iPhone is shown actual size and I can read it fro 4ft away U need your eyes checked pal.

Please enlighten me?

I know thats all I was asking then that happened...lol oh well

If i find a nice mount I will let you know and post here...i just dont like that u-bolt mount from RAM Mounts

Just did a quick prototype with some zip ties and my Griffin Clip Holster I think that this placement is perfect! I took the TomTom prototype image of the User Interface and is the exact scale just for the screen. I think though to mount it on the bar mount I may have to make a custom mount or have one made. Whatever happens it will be worth the investment. And yes my screen is cracked...dropped it one time too many. Getting a corner protector for the next one. But this one works great.

Hey Steve great idea man. I have an iphone that has blown speaker and the letters stick from time to time, thinking about the upgrade. If I do I'll be anxious to see how this turns out for you, are you getting one tomorrow?

I've heard the battery on the new one drains twice as fast though...

don't worry about battery, there are enough links on this site to rig a cig lighter hookup to the bike that work with or without the ignition switch. Power isn't a problem. You'd be more charged after your trip than when you started! haha

the ram mounting system is what i am getting. it mounts to your handlebar. you can get a few different size waterproof cases that work with the mount. depends on your application. not sure if the iphone would fit in the small case but it is just a matter of measuring things.

TUMM: don't get that waterproof casing...the phone is a touchscreen. You can't touch it if it's sealed up

unless the GPS and screen stays lit up the whole time? I don't know yet, cuz I don't have the phone yet.
