Hey Guys,

For those of you that were at the Deals Gap meet this is old news, but for everyone else it isn't. About 30 miles into my planned trip to North Carolina my FZ overheats in traffic. Me and thatguyx pull over and try and diagnose the problem. After a quick look over we see the fan isn't coming on, allowing the bike to get hot when it sits at idle. No problem, it's probably a fuse. We pull the side pod off and sure enough the fuse was blown. I throw a new fuse in and try again, but no go. Pull the fuse again and it's blown for a second time. WTF!!! I now put fuse 3 in, and turn the key on. NOTHING... We take a closer look at the fan, and it won't spin. After a couple nudges a small rock falls to the ground. Ah HA, Now it will work. WRONG!!! It seems the rock allowed the motor to burn itself up.

So there we are sitting on the side of the interstate with another 700 miles to travel before night fall. I made the bold decision to and said F-it, nothing is keeping me from this trip. Traffic cleared up a little and we set off to NC. I monitored the temp closely for the next few hundred miles, and it never crept over 185 on the interstate.

I did a total of 2,170 without a working fan! Keep the bike moving and you won't need it.

I dropped it off at the dealer today, and it will be next week before they can even look at it. I'm FZ6 less for a couple weeks, and already dreading it. The upside is I still have 3 weeks left on my warrenty.:)

I thought you dumped it or traded it in for an FJR when I read the title.

So the warranty will cover something like that? I hope they don't jerk you around. Good luck and let us know how everything turns out.

All I know is that my fan stopped working, so all the dealer knows it that my fan stopped working.:) Sounds like a warrenty issue to me.

Must have been quite a feat for the rock to do that.

Hope you deal with the withdrawal symptons in a healthy way. :smoking::smoking::smoking:

I just realized that im not bikeless, but FZ6 less. I still have a couple bikes to ride, but none that I really want to ride.

Buy a FJR to hang out with the FZ. If you get a blue FJR you might have babies. LOL LOL

Come out one morning and the Z will setting on motorcycle eggs. LOL

that's all kinds of disturbing mental imagery.........

Hope you aren't bikeless for too long man....so what about the dual sport? You losing interest in the dirt?

Yeah I hear that the Z bikes get all protective around the eggs.

I just got off the phone with the dealer, and it seems the fan motor went bad! He said it was the first time he has seen one go out. I wonder how it happened?:D Anyhow, he has alerady received approval from Yamaha to fix it under warrenty. I should have it by Saturday.

Nice to know it will be fixed but DAMN! That's one slow dealer!

How'd you get the rock in it? Did you go off-roading?

I dropped it off last Tuesday simply because that was the only time I was available to do it. I knew up front that they wouldn't be getting to it until this week, so I can't fault them there.

I do ride with a group of Vstrom guys that do a fair amount of dirt riding. I have no idea where though.

You really take the FZ6 out in the dirt? Me thinks you need to add another bike to the stable!

I agree, I have been down many gravel and dirt roads on my FZ. She doesnt care. Loose arms, float your wieght on the pegs some, and get it going to the speed it floats up on the gravel and your golden.
The FZ6 is UJM Universal Japense Motorcycle. She will go where you put her.

I have driven it on dirt a few times but I cannot say I like it. Now, the XR? Heck yeah!!!!! Nice!!!!

That's one slow dealer!

Good luck finding a dealer this time of year that isn't backed up. Its prime season, well honestly it was last month, but now they are playing catch up.

At least they are busy. With the way the economy is and gas, its good to see that other dealerships are doing well.

Our two local dealers put on extra people to handle the loads. One takes some pride in fast turnaround of service.

I'm not one to use them though. I like to do my own work.
