hello all first post on this forum, thought i would keep it simple. im trying to replace my stator on my 06 fz6 but cant find any good deals online. i have been looking at the 03 yzf r6 stator online but cant find out if it will work on my 06 fz6. im looking to buy a flywheel,stator and stator case. so what im asking is if i bought a 03 yamaha yzf r6 flywheel,stator and stator case would it bolt up and work on my 06 fz6. thanks for any helpful commits in advance.

I think I remember someone trying the R6 stator and it didn't work out. I would stick to the OEM replacement. I can only assume you've done the resistant tests and confirmed the unit you're replacing is bad. Any history?

yes LAWLBERG with a little gravel added into that "asphalt skid resistance test"
MOTOGIRO i didn't even think to test ohms ill go hold it up to the side of my fz6 and see if anything happens. ill have my buddy pour oil on it while i crank it over (just kidding). anyone know of a place online were you can buy a 06 fz6 stator and flywheel?
 
they don't seem to come up for sale very often, I ended up rebuilding mine, but yours looks a bit beyond that

as mentioned the R6 one is not compatible
 
Looks to be several tiny things. Wire diamater, turns ratio per node, total wattage, and the Regulator Rectifier is different too.

I would not suggest this, but if you get the flywheel, stator and RR, that's pretty much the whole thing. It should work! The Cranks are the SAME partnumber but I never looked at the stator cover....

Overall, I'd go OEM or wait for a good used on fleebay.

The screw holes are in a slightly different position, it's also wound for a different magnetic configuration, even if it fitted it would produce very little power.
 
There's usually many used parts on this forum for sale.

Check the used parts section or post a WTB.

BTW, frame sliders are a little cheaper than a replacement stator, etc..:spank: JK

Alrighty,FinalImpact that was a great link and really helped me see how it all works. TownsendsFJR1300 i didnt use frame sliders because i have heard about them breaking the frame if you land hard on them. i was looking at the Givi crash cage but didn't make up my mind in time. anyone have an opinion on buying a used generator rotor?
used generator rotor $125.98
new stator $190.94
new stator cover $43.90
new stator cover gasket $12.99
grand total $373.81 including shipping
if anyone knows of any better prices then that shipped then let me know. thanks

I was screwing with ya... ;)

I don't have frame sliders either (I'm the minority). I would rather have your damage than a broke frame (totaled bike), and just don't like the looks of them..

Just keep your eyes' open, those parts are available here from wrecked bikes all the time. I'd buy here way before I'd buy on E-Bay.

stator's don't really wear out, unless they manage to burn through a coil (and in that case they are knackered)

I would buy buy a used one (and have done). That said, the new price looks very cheap, I was quoted around £300 from yamaha for a replacement (~USD$500).

That price sounds pretty good. Is your flywheel damaged at all?

It's fairly easy to fit a new one. Though I'd be concerned about any further damage that you might have done.

Not everyone has these (dial indicator) and if there is damage to the stator, I'd be reluctant to use it. The magnets are bonded inside and gravity being what it is, they should stay there. However, if one is cracked, it could let a small fragement out and repeat this whole process of destruction. REPLACE IT!

However, with a dial indicator and the spark plug out, you could check it for run out although its the inside that needs checked not the outside.

Q? did that all happen at once? As in, after the spill did you ride it home with oil coming out of the broken case? I'm having a hard time grasping how it got so burned and the hole in the case....

Yes, throw a pic of the flywheel up....
 
FinalImpact I did not drive it after I dropped it It had no oil in it when I picked it up off the ground. Have not tried starting it sense it was shut off from the tip over switch. I plan on replacing the stator,generator rotor because they are beyond repair.
 
Believe it or not your lucky...

Another member, not long ago, did the same thing But snapped off a piece of the main block when the stator cover got ripped off(took the threaded part of the block with it).

He was lucky enough to find a real good welder and fixed it right.
