F Trip Abuse:

actual stats on the last fuel up

I filled up yesterday morning
the speedo read 240.3 km and I know I had been on f-trip for nearly 20 km
and on average it does come on at the 220 km mark.
I put in 15.63 litres and always fill the neck on the tank to about 1 inch or 2cm from overflow and always allow for the air bubble to come to the top so its consistent( and that's the key filling consistently)
so by my reckoning:
240km / 15.63 km =15.3 km per litre.

the tank holds 19 litres- 15.63 =3.37 litres still in reserve
3.37 x 15.3= 51.5 km of travel still in the tank.
Therefor I can assume that I have around 70 km(43 miles) to find juice when the f-trip comes up on the dash.

the last tank cost me $25 and I get about 10-12 days riding on average between fuel ups

Its more likely the for the pump to be damaged by the fine sediment in the tanks bottom. However the fuel is a lubricant to the pumps impeller so the act of sucking air may cause some additinal wear.
Also w water being heavier than gas, it will also be subject to injection.
I would try to avoid running completely out of fuel and for those of us coming out of winter storage suggest you add a fuel cleaner like Chevron Techron to remove moisture induced by storage.

That said i've done 32 mile on ftrip getting out of the woods! Based on how much the fill up was there was still more to go. But 25 is pretty safe for most of us.

40-45 miles, depending on how I run it. If you rip it into high RPM's all the time, closer to 30 I expect. I'm usually cruising at 55-60 in top gear when it comes on so I'm averaging over 50mpg at that point.

45 was as long as I ever pushed it before wussing out. My lazy gene overwhelmed me when I couldn't hear gas sloshing in the tank anymore.
